After my wife dragged me to see 'Into The Woods' , all I can say is that I want my money back. Biggest way of money.

I did warn you.

I feel sorry for the person who had to pay to see a sh*t movie and an expensive dinner.

Yea but it wasn’t a bad serving of Jack Daniel Ribs. I’m choosing next movie to make her sit through.

Hold out for Mad Max IV, I reckon.

you want realism Wim, watch Whiplash, that kid who plays the lead character plays 95% of the drumming in that movie himself, which is amazing, only the really hard fusion stuff did they have to only do a few audio overdubs, its still his hands. to cast a actor who could not only drum but is that good of a drummer makes that movie get 100% buy in.

Well that was pretty amazing.
I won’t be forgetting it any time soon. Found the whole film incredibly tense, and I can still feel it in my shoulders.

On the other hand, it left Mrs Wim cold. For her it was just another plotted drama. With drumming.
I can sort of see that, but I didn’t feel it. At all. So I guess it’s not for everyone.
I was pretty much hooked with the long rest (I’d love to know how many beats/bars…can’t find it on the interwebs) after the single beat to start one song and then…'kin bang.

I’d watch it again. That and Birdman.

Yeah, same, glad you liked it.

All Boyhood was good for was killing 2.45mins of the flight between Shin-Chitose airport and Hong Kong.

Saw Boyhood today, paid money and lost 148 minutes of my life. My Wife said that it was like watching Neighbours nonstop for 10 episodes. Wrong ! Sometimes things happen in Neighbours, nothing happened in this movie.

Just came back from Birdman.

Ok - the negative - I found the one-shot-steadycam effect too intrusive.

That said - I loved the film. I’m a sucker for strong method acting. Those guys are some of the best.

had a look at “Warm Bodies” last night. A zombie film love story, no less! Actually surprisingly engaging despite some slow moments. We got to the end and realised we’d actually enjoyed the “whole” more than the sum of the parts might have suggested. Not a bad film in spite of some bits not hanging together.

Just got home after seeing American Sniper.Thoroughly enjoyed it and was impressed with Bradley Cooper’s performance.

After reading some of the negative comments in the press regarding “the baby” and the use of the term “savages” all I can say is that some people need to get a life.

Nice.
Intentional?

Watched St Vincent. Enjoyable film. Good performances. Now l know nothing about the origin of the story or the screenplay but l couldn’t help thinking some US movie man watched “about a boy” and thought how can we make a US version but change it enough to not have to pay any money.
I know there are large plot differences but stories about two men who have no direction in life who befriend a young bullied boy who ends up hanging around their home after school due to their mothers personal/ work issues. They confront the bullies. They use the child for their own benefit but inadvertently come to like the boy. An incident occurs that disenfranchises them from the child and redemption is found in an event at the school hall. The film ends with all the movies colourful characters sharing a meal together.

Speaking about the movie “about a boy”, Nicholas Hoult’s transformation from “Marcus” to Hollywood leading man and ex boyfriend of Teresa Palmer and Jennifer Lawrence has to be the biggest transformation since Jerry O’Connell’s from being the “fat kid” in “Stand By Me”.
Or perhaps since Patrick Dempsey from the geek in teenage movies such as “Can’t buy me love” to Mc Dreamy.
Can’t think of any equivalent female transformations except for Lindsay Lohan’s transformation from cute twins to freaky adult.

He was so good in ‘Skins’.

Saw ‘Whiplash’ last night. Very good film, with both Miles Teller & J.K Simmons outstanding. Pretty amazing to think that Miles Teller actually did most of the drumming scenes in the film.

Kirsten Dunst…Jumanji, Interview with a Vampire and Bonfire of the Vanities.

Jennifer Connelly…Labyrinth and Once Upon a Time in America.

Drew Barrymore

Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Connelly were attractive child stars who turned into attractive adult stars. I remember as a kid thinking Jennifer Connelly in Labryinth was absolutely beautiful. Of course l was shocked at her descent in Requiem for a dream.
Nicholas Hoult, Jerry O’Connell, Patrick Dempsey would not have been considered attractive child stars in those movies.
Maybe there are few roles for geeky female child stars.

Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Connelly as adult stars?

Connelly in her early movies as an adult like The Rocketeer, Hot Spot, Mulholland Falls was absolutely gorgeous, then lost 20 lbs…she should have kept it on.
