God I really want to see Foxcatcher.

Yes you should. I really enjoyed it.

Awesome.

I was hoping that it would get some good reviews on here.

Seeing Steve Carell in that kind of role as an incredibly intense and serious character is really intriguing.

Both Steve Carell and Channing Tatum were very good in their roles. It was good seeing them portray more layered and darker characters.

Going to see The Theory Of Everything next week. Nice and deep sort of film.

Eddie Redmayne will win the best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking. His transformation is truly amazing.

I re-watched The Matrix for the first time in ages.

That movie is still cool as hell, in that it is so pitch-perfect for the time it was created. The internet was all phones and mysterious and authority should be questioned and Rob Zombie was cool and leather and trench coats. All so so good.

Also made me acutely aware having re-watched the original Star Wars trilogy recently, that The Matrix sequels share the same problems as the Star Wars prequels – they answer questions that were more fun left as questions. I didn’t need to see Zion and I didn’t need to know what The Force was, those were things more enjoyable left to the imagination.

Totally agree with all that.

Man, the Matrix sequels were so, so bad, that they actually detracted from the legacy of the first one. If that was left at just one movie, it would have been universally known as ā€˜elite.’ (although there are elements of the second one that I think were underrated. The third one was poo.)

Same for me, the second one was 2 hours of setup for the final one, and the final one sucked.

Saw Foxcatcher on the weekend. Great performances from Tatum, Ruffalo and Carrell. Carrell is almost unrecognisable. It is a very good film but if I was going to be picky (and I am), the film was a tad long and could’ve been benefitted from some tighter direction and editing.

Also saw St Vincent, which was very enjoyable. It is quite sentimental but just manages to not become maudlin or sappy. Nothing exceptional about the film but it is well made with good performances from Murray, McCarthy and the kid who plays the boy.

Went and saw Foxcatcher yesterday and whilst it wasn’t bad, it didn’t meet my expectations.

Felt it dragged on a bit towards the end but I enjoyed the performance by Steve Carrell and thought he did an excellent job.

Wanting to see American Sniper next.

I dont remember ever actually seeing the first one.

I remember the first, in glorious stereo at Chadstone. Rolled in early to get primo seats (before tickets were allocated but after the previous time they were allocated…) and about five minutes into the film a bunch of teenagers rolled in expecting my friend and I to move because otherwise they couldn’t all sit together. Poor little poppets. I told them to ā– ā– ā– ā–  off and get a watch.

Saw American Sniper last night, really, really liked it.

Beautiful touch by Eastwood by playing ā€˜il Silenzio’ at the end, very poignant.

Monica Belluci is the only reason to watch 2 & 3. Otherwise, as others have said, they simply serve to make the original far less cool.

John Wick was good, not great.

As far as Keanu post-Matrix goes, I enjoyed him in Man of Tai Chi better.

hahaha…love it!

Last week, my partner and I went to the movies. Now, I’m a little particular where I sit, which is why I either go to allocated seating cinemas, or, get in the door very early. Anyway - We get to our two seats, and there’s this guy and this girl sitting in them. I’m nice and all, and let him know he is in the wrong seats.
So…he gets up, and proceeds to say in a very loud voice ā€œthere are THOUSANDS of seats in here…!!!ā€
I said ā€œyeah - so go and find one unless you want a sceneā€.
He goes ā€œalright, chill!ā€
ā€œI’m really really ā€˜chill’, manā€ I say.
They left.
I hate self-righteous dicks.

Saw Kingsman last night. Loved it. If 2015 has a movie in store that oozes more cool factor, I cannot wait to see it!

Really? I was a bit cynical about watching that one - looked kinda silly in the previews. Ok, I might give it a go.

Went and saw The Gambler tonight.

I enjoyed it. You have to get past certain cheesy hollywood bits - but what hollywood movie doesn’t have them, right?
Excellent performance by John Goodman (he doesn’t star in it) and Jessica Lange (she doesn’t either). Wahlberg was ok.

Ahm…some people won’t like this movie, as it is more of a ā€˜head’ movie than what the previews would suggest.

Caveat - I like weird movies.

Yeah, I really found it entertaining, despite getting a bit silly at the end. Colin Firth maketh the man.
