Bone Tomahawk is just a touch brutal. I think Kurt Russell just wandered straight from the set of it across to the Hateful Eight, looks exactly the same in both of them.
And 10 Cloverfield Lane was great, tense, gripping, and a real out of the frying pan into the fire finish. Goodman’s character is an absolute whackjob.
Yeh I watched Bone Tomahawk the other week. Liked it, but only this annoying was the lack of explanation of who those people were. Just a bunch of cannibals living in the mountains with zero contact with the outside world?
I watched Key Largo for the first time last night. It wasn’t what I was expecting. It was made in 1948, 6 years after Casablanca, and it stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and was directed by John Huston. Its weakness is that it’s a movie adapted from a stage play, and it has all the defects that stage adaptations often have. It’s very static. Almost all of the action happens in a single room. There’s not much action, but there’s a lot of dialogue.
Despite all that, it’s not bad to watch, although fans of the Marvel franchise wouldn’t like it. But if you’re looking for another Casablanca, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
Batman v Superman was utter garbage. Jesse Eisenberg is woefully bad.
Just got back from it and I have to agree. As a fan of everything comic related I even like the “bad” ones but this just stunk it up. One of the hardest movie to follow ever.
The only glimmer of hope in the movie was Wonder Woman and she was hardly in it.
Watched Zootopia last week and enjoyed it as did the family. 7/10
Saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 last night with my better half. It will get canned by 99.9% of people here, but after accepting it would not live up to the first one well before I entered the movie - it was ok. Basically greeks taking the mickey out of themselves in an over the top way. Just switch off thinking and enjoy the stupidity of it all. (We had free tickets for the movie which is why I’m ok with it - probably says abit). 5/10.
The Revenant. 2015 9 / 10
l bought this on DVD a couple of months ago, but had not watched it as l wanted to see it on a big screen. Well on Sunday it opened here and l just happened to be downtown get some groceries, so l decided to watch it. Small theatre, big screen. l ended up in the middle of the row and probably only about 7 - 8 m. from the screen. Because of the slant on the rows of seating my eye line was pretty much located right in the middle of the screen. In a very real sense it felt like l was ‘in’ the movie, more than just watching, l was an active observer. Two things that struck me and still resonate a couple of days later are, just how brutal the action is, and how cold. Di Caprio gives a strong performance and Tom Hardy an even stronger one. Although the story is slow to develop, it never felt like it was dragging. The time passed without me noticing, but that could just as well be a result of sitting so close to the screen as anything else. Life was tough and death was sudden. America was somewhere between a wilderness and a paradise, depending on your point of view. This movie is certainly no western, but a survival epic. Tough stuff in places, but well done, a masterful piece of film making by all concerned.
Finally saw Creed, really enjoyed it. Almost teared up at one point (oh all right I did tear up) anyone who has seen it will know why and the scene.
Gotta say though, the champ looked like a bit of a fat slob. My fat gut is in better condition than that. Maybe there’s still hope, can you hear that chant in the back ground…Kj Kj Kj!!!
