id like to know why government running supermarkets is crazy when governments building nuclear power stations, and retrofitting coal fired power stations is somehow ok
Government couldnāt run a chook raffle. Guaranteed they will screw farmers and taxpayers more, what else would you like them to run that isnāt working out?
Government reach has gone way too far as it is.
Itās funny how when Government was in control of roads, there was never a major problem with potholesā¦power, water and gas bills didnāt go up on such a regular basis or so steeplyā¦you never heard of bushfires starting due to lack of maintenance of power poles etc.
Yesā¦privatisation has worked wonderfully well for the general public.
The amount of dodgy Telehealth providers advertising directly on Facebook for subsidied or āfreeā health care tells me there is some massive grift going on under Albanese eh.
Thats where the Gold Coast scammer crowd are making their
at the moment for sure.
Healthcare.
Energy.
Banking.
Telecommunications
Insurance.
Childcare.
Disability support.
Jobseeker support.
You have no argument.
The government sold them off because they were broke, provabky because they couldnāt run them effectively enough to keep funding it
Which ones of those are they running well?
Australians can go days, even weeks, without giving a second thought to government or public services.
And thatās largely because public servants are working behind the scenes, keeping the country running, day in and day out, often without so much as a hiccup.
The only time most people hear about Government is when something goes wrong and makes the news.
Otherwise, 99.9% of Australians just get on with their lives, barely noticing the thousands of public servants working every day to keep the country moving.
My point is that theyāre not running any of them, and none of them are running well.
No, they sold them off because of neolibearl zealotry.
Yeah but you never heard anything about grocery prices or electricity prices eitherā¦
Oh wait ..
This seems a bit like garbage in, garbage out.
Iād have the probability of the ALP winning in November (either majority or minority) at not quite at zero but very close to. Conversely, Iād have the probability of the LNP winning in November at not quite 100%, but very close to, with recent polling suggesting it is more likely to be in an outright majority.
Iād rather those utilities not be run well as govt services than not run well as private business personally
Seeing that private enterprise is so good it must be time to privatise the ATO by selling it off to foreign investors!
That should work well for us taxpayers!!!
Havenāt read anyone on here saying privatising stuff has made it run better, can you eleborate where someone said that?
Libs need to capture Suburban Melbourne.
Thatās the simple fact of the matter.
They have constantly failed to do this at both State and Federal Level.
As the Roy Morgan polling shows, they likely canāt. Labor and Greens hold Melbourne.
100% agree. I donāt recall the SEC being poor run as a service for Vics so not sure why it was sold off apart for debt-reduction purposes.
Old mate up the thread claiming governments canāt run things.
My response was a list of things that were run better, for less, by the government.
Heās right in that sense, but the problem is that privatisation hasnāt made it run better proportionally to what it is costing us excluding taxpayer $ value (seems easier to explain in my head)
We were sold this dream of privatisation heaps productivity, competition, drive prices down and less burden on the taxpayer. Unfortunately, we werenāt really given a chance to vote on it as very little of that has been delivered.
For what we gave up, privatisation should be performing better (for us anyway) than it actually is.
So when the govt ran Telstra, CBA, childcare, energy, water (the list goes on) it was all ā ā ā ā and we paid more?
Private enterprise does not seek efficiency. It seems revenue and growth. I think youāre pretty well qualified to figure out what that meansā¦
Edit: he isnāt right
