Australian Policies -- from 2025 Federal election

Absolutely

I’m sure she’s been with Chris long enough she’d have called him a ā– ā– ā– ā–  at some point.

And at that point, everyone would agree Bec Judd was right.

People are sick and tired of being scared in their own homes but…

OMG NEWZ CORPZ

I would say the same about my youth, but in my youth, you had parents, schools ect actually able to discipline children.

At 16 my mates and I did some roof rocking and ended smashing a window or two on a house. We were charged with criminal damage and slapped with a 5 year good behaviour bond. Kids now get less for stabbing someone. That’s what’s ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , rehabilitation isn’t letting them get away with it, they need to be significantly punished.

Depends where you get brought up I guess.

To me Springvale and Noble Park are safer than it ever had been.

humans in general are quite bad at assessing risk

yes, crime happens. roughly 2,600 incidents of a crime against a person per 100k in victoria. scary numbers!

however narrow that down to just ā€œnot known to the offender, involved hospitalisationā€ and we’re down to 400ish.

something must be done! hard agree.

now using the same measurement scale (the old per 100k), each year 100 people are hospitalised and 5 people die due to vehicle accidents. yet there’s no noise at all about the government taking action on this. we still get in our cars and drive around (or walk across roads) each day without a second thought. if anything, we want to be able to drive faster.

the noise doesn’t match the risk. legacy media uses it to bash alp governments because fear is really easy to sell. remember the youth crime wave in qld that seemed to get better after their state election?

-edit- statistically you’re about as likely to be diagnosed with cancer in the next 12 months as you are to be a victim of a crime that isn’t domestic abuse in the same time period.

Yeah I guess, the thought of if we get caught we’re ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  was there.

We caught and got what we deserved

You’re right, I have just realised I have never talked to people before. Should I get a good cross section in? I feel like the ones who read the Herald Sun or watch Sky are going to tell me it’s a good idea finally to lock kids up for years and years rather than address inequality, poverty, lack of opportunity and the cycle of incarceration and recidivism - in not so many words. But that the horse has bolted and Jacinta is just trying to save her own job. But I’ll get out there and vox pop the ā– ā– ā– ā–  out of it because it’s definitely a VICTORIAN PROBLEM and it’s OUT OF HAND

Again your going with this bullshit about reading the herald sun or watching Sky and don’t give us this BS about lack of opportunity. There is PLENTY of opportunities out there for young people. Each suburb has several Footy Teams, Soccer Teams, Basketball courts, Skate Parks hell im sure if you wanted to join a model train society you could.

so the punishment wasn’t a deterrent hey

punishing offenders might make us all feel good, but it doesn’t prevent people doing crimes. particularly young silly geese.

-edit- i’m not at all opposed to harsher sentencing for crimes against people. i’m in favour. 20 years for looking at me funny, go nuts. crime will still happen though, people need to understand that.

Also people who don’t but are just as ready to go with bullshit easy feels ā€˜solutions’, I’ll talk to them.

no one wants to read this factual sht simmo, we want to get angry

Time for capital punishments for violent young offenders.

Would only need a few public executions and I think the message would be understood.

Plus such a spectacle would make for peak ratings reality TV, and/or better Grand Final half time entertainment than the usual washed up American ā€œmusiciansā€.

We didn’t do it again, so the punishment did work in that sense

I keep numerous weapons planted around the house and so far only have needed to use them once in my life. I don’t care what age you are though, break in whether I’m home or not and I’ll take the law into my own hands

Ive got a cricket bat under my bed.

If someone breaks into my home they are getting a hook shot to the back of the head.
