isn’t a lot of the so called record immigration was just getting people back that were booted out by covid like students ect , on top of normal inmigration targets that the liberals had in mind anyway ?
Yes
At the end of the day, whether you are protesting for Palestine or protesting for Israel, you are in effect, supporting unsolicted killings. People have the right to protest and support a cause as long as it is conducted in a safe way.
Protest away and not make others fell unsafe, sure. But the last year of protests by this group show me uneducated people celebrating global terrorism as opposed to bringing light to a situation. This all started again as a celebration of what occurred on October 7.
It may or may not. However that’s not the important consideration here.
Problem is, the immigration numbers are unsustainable and are placing unwarranted pressure on infrastructure and driving up inflation which is feeding into the cost of living problem… Both sides of politics agree it’s too high and needs to be reduced, and the mix adjusted to focus on necessary skill sets for areas of our economy that need additional workers.
Opinion presented as fact. Beware racist dogwhistling.
Not true. Most protesting against the death of civilians.
How is it racist to say that current immigration levels are unsustainable.
It has been a trend across the globe in western countries to have high immigration which has led to driving housing prices up and worsening living standards for the existing population.
Citation needed.
Both sides seem committed to the Ponzi policy.
But, according to one poster, they are uneducated people, he can tell by their faces.
And the people who are being killed and terrorised daily might be uneducated. Certainly, the children who survive aren’t being schooled, their schools have been destroyed, as have some schools in Ukraine.
Dutton claiming that we are letting in criminals or potential criminals, releasing people from detention into the community, the ones whose visas have expired.
As for those African gangz,
We also have an aging population and one that expects more services such as health and aged care than previous seniors did. We also have a declining birth rate, so our demographics of workers supporting retirees will continue to get worse.
If we don’t want immigration then we either a) have to raise taxes or b)cut services.
Obviously it’s a balance but the media doesn’t help understand what that balance truely lies, they just go for the big headline.
The hyphenated Queensland MP got pulled up in an interview today when he said ‘Every economist agrees [about some policy to solve the housing crisis]’. He agreed to amend his assertion to ‘Some economists…’
That’s the second time you’ve gone with that in two days. If you honestly think we can’t have a sensible discussion about the pitfalls of excessive immigration on the current Australian economy without playing the racism card, then how can we frame the discussion and need to review the intake? You don’t need to prattle the lefts go to lines.
Agree. It’s where political ideology gets in the way of necessary debate. And that’s a problem in the political discourse broadly.
In their budget speeches, both sides agree to reduce the numbers. Refer Chalmers / Dutton speeches. Some argue that their lower intake targets are still too high.
Check out the Hun. The Press Council has found that a Knight Cartoon showing Dutton and Albanese efforts to stem the tide of immigrants breached standards in the depiction of immigrants by offensive racial stereotyping ( all non Caucasian).
Knight rails at the limitations on freedom of expression, it was just a joke.
And if you honestly can’t admit that both presently and historically a great deal of opposition to immigration has been driven by racism, then you’re acting as if wilfully blind and are playing into the hands of actual racists.
There is a certain type of person for which ‘too many immigrants!’ Is the battle cry for everything under the sun.
You have people acting outraged by house prices who ferociously oppose every measure to lower house prices except immigration cuts, people who who will shriek to the skies about how climate change is a socialist hoax but then turn around and say that we need to cut immigration to reduce emissions, people who crusade agains international students apparently taking uni spots away from Australians, but offering no solutions about how higher ed could be funded once the international student cash cows go away.
We can certainly have a legit debate about immigration levels, but we also absolutely must remember that a large amount of anti-immigration sentiment is legit racists opportunistically suckering on to the issue of the day to promote their underlying racist agenda. Believing everyone in the debate is speaking with good faith is utterly foolish.
It hasn’t gotten as far as Trump. He’s saying it’s in their genes to be criminals ( subtext, miscegenation)
Its a balance 600-700,000 per year is unsustainable
200,000 is more sustainable and focus towards skilled migration.
yes we do need workers, especially in aged care.
we don’t need as many foreign students as we have.
Birth rate likely increases a bit if people don’t have to worry as much about putting a roof over their head and food on the table and can move out of parents house before they are 30.
