Australian Policies -- from December 2023

Hardly striking.

I think Big A has said in mental health thread that he has done similar in respite before.
He’s probably not the best example.

My point more generally was go to pro immigration rally’s and ask someone if they have a room available for a migrant and they would say no.

And I’m not against immigration just at sustainable levels so we aren’t creating a homeless problem and unaffordable rents for current citizens.

Think you’ve got the wrong person.i’ve never been involved in placing immigrants in respite care.

Loks like there’s even more air between his ears!

Where are these pro immigration rallies happening?

Which is unsolicited killings. Read the post.

This happened after World War 11 in quite large numbers with the influx of European Immigration. Many people rented out rooms or even had granny flats . This cohort of people often had the man come to Australia first, stay in boarding house accommodation or if lucky find a room with a family, find work, save up money, and then bring their partners and family to Australia.

Even today many of the international students often have 5 or 6 people staying in a 2 bedroom flat, or new immigrants often stay in extended family/communal residences.

can always count on the conservatives when they get any sniff of power . Qld now they are hinting about rolling back abortion laws . and always this crap about boot camps to solve so called youth crime “crisis”
this is the “crisis” they have created to get back into power . I don’t think the overall stats show that numbers are dramatically different .
they single out terrible incidents and some tragic events as a way of creating a "crisis " that tougher laws and boot camps and only liberal governments can fix.
and why do they always feel the need to interfere with women’s choices with their bodies .
I suppose the next thing is we will be back to religious freedoms , wash , rinse repeat .
they cry and moan about culture wars but are always the ones who instigate these culture wars .
god it’s boring

so who’s the diplomat who’s partner went ape in NZ?

I would suggest that supporting unsolicited killings, your words, is the opposite of protesting against civilian death.

I have just read the IBAC Operation Leo report on bribery and corruption in the Mooney Valley Local Council. Essendon Royals special access to sporting grounds, parking bays for restaurants, property developments (including increase in height limits) bribe payment in kind ( including cocaine) non disclosure of interests, direct conflict of interests.
The IBAC Commissioner has recommended that voters in the forthcoming Victorian Local Government elections thoroughly check the bona fides of candidates, their business interests, including their disclosure of interests. Voting papers are now being mailed out.

The Press Council noted that the complaint raised concerns that the cartoon suggests that the immigrants are mostly Muslims from the Middle East and Africa and does not portray the reality of immigration into Australia which is led by people from India, China and the Philippines. The complaint noted that in this context, the cartoon’s portrayal of the immigrants’ ethnicity is offensive, and the way they are drawn is a racial stereotype of Muslims from the Middle East and Africa, which is prejudicial. The complaint also expressed concern that the cartoon depicted Dutton as a superhero capable of winding up the drawbridge, and by implication protecting Australia from such immigrants.

Yikes.
I’d have deleted it, too.

Or it could have been accompanied by the Press Council adjudication on offensive racial stereotyping.

Tell me again the immigration debate isn’t pure dog-whistling.
Absolutely putrid cartoon.

The top 10 countries providing the most permanent migrants to Australia in order of rank for 2022–23 are:
