Australian Policies -- from December 2023

Feel like something dramatic will happen by June.
Again. *Not a doctor.

I’m sure Temu is doing shedloads better than Versace, or Myers.
That’s…not great for us.

I thought you were a doctor working night shifts ?

I’d be surprised if anything drastic happens by June - as in negative growth or a recession. Unemployment still relatively low and I think it’ll be a soft landing.

Big watch for me first 6 months of 2024 is Stage 3 - unlikely to be shelved - but could easily be delayed for 12 months. The argument being they don’t want to stoke inflation. Also guarantees another surplus and money to spend in lead up to election. Pure speculation on my behalf

We don’t do significant amounts of Temu so not sure what their loads are like but Myer for us is up about 17% this year and overall Australian stores are up near on 20% with the Accent Group seeing our biggest trend upwards.

People spend more these days at Black Friday. There is nothing good left this time of the year. Go into somewhere like Mecca, Mac or places like Haigh’s and koko black and try and find a gift pack that was there beginning of November… None are left. They’re all already gone. People have already done their shopping.

Nah, not while there’s this semiconductor / chip war going on. Taiwan is too important strategically

Online doing well but most of the larger retailers are experiencing negative comp growth in their physical stores of 5-10% over the past 6 months

I feel like you do know about Temu.
And other cut price internationals.
And Amazon.

Call me cray-cray.

I absolutely do know about them but they make up a fairly small part of our business currently so I honestly don’t how much they are pushing through other channels. Amazon for instance does a lot of their own deliveries and mostly use us for their overflow, Temu similar but use DHL for a fair bit of their logistics in Australia. We are trying to get more of their market but obviously I only keep an eye on what comes through our facilities or use our infrastructure. I have no doubt they are growing rapidly but I don’t know about their sheer numbers

Lot of truth in that. Taiwan makes about 50% of world supply and they are also the best.

Much of them already end up in China.

Fair enough.
Sorry for appearing being agressive.

Nah, all good. We just don’t get to see the whole picture as they don’t use us for the bulk of their work.

This is severely underrated

The Cairns floods will have a big impact on inflation, that’s going to hurt fresh produce prices in the short term.

Nope, that would create something that is at times useful.

They call themselves the Right in NSW because they think they always are.

The Labor Right , also known as Modern Labor or Labor Unity , is a political faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) at the national level that is characterised by being more economically liberal and more or equally socially conservative than the Labor Left[6] The Labor Right is a broad alliance of various state factions and competes with the Labor Leftfaction.

And a stream of climate refugees to the Glorious Gold Coast which will lead to an unemployment crisis as not everyone looks great in gold thongs. All kidding aside my sister’s in laws just made it out before they shut the airport. It’s not a game this climate stuff.

Can it even be considered a ā€œconspiracyā€ at this point?

Bill, wiki can say what it likes, but there is nothing Modern about Unity.

Really ? A successful businessman who doubles as an anarchist ? There are plenty of other successful businessmen in the Labor Party, but you must be the only anarchist. Keep it under your hat, comrade - if Comrade Albanese gets wind of your anti-socialist treachery he’ll set Dr. Jim and the Tax Office on your trail, and you don’t want that, now you’ve hit the three score and ten !

You’re in good company, I suppose, old man : heroes like Bakhunin, Proudhon and Pissarro are worth studying . Here’s an A for Affort.
