Australian Policies -- from December 2023

Here, he is the King of Australia, it’s official. Toasts are to the King of Oz

We do but he apparently had the offer of a BA chartered aircraft to get him to Singapore but declined that due to cost burden on Australia and instead came on a BA RPT flight to Singapore and the RAAF collected him from there

All sorts of protocols here when he landed and was “handed over” to Australia. By all accounts very pleasant and appreciative of the support provided.

Part of the airport at Geneva is inside the French border, debark in France. When VIPs land, French Protocol meets and greets, a few metres to cross the border into Suisse, Suisse meet and greet.
The plebs go through a tunnel. At least the signs are all in the same language.

Geneva airport lies entirely in Switzerland however they do have a small French sector which for immigration procedures has French Territory status and when you arrive by air you from France you can enter the French sector or the Swiss sector. It’s changed a bit in the last 5-10 years but pretty painless unless the French are in one of their moods. In March I had a decent interrogation because when asked I told them I had no cash on me as I don’t carry cash and they proceeded to go through all our luggage, wallets, purses etc to check.

The airport facilities are in Switzerland, but the plane runway is in France and you land in France from another country, but go through a tunnel to Swiss immigration. There is a point in the tunnel when you can go to France.
I haven’t been there for a while, but for work I would be using it sometimes more than once a month. When one of our Ministers was coming it was a nuisance with the protocol

The runway is in Switzerland and the whole airport land is in Switzerland. The French border runs along the Northern boundary of the airport. It is a myth perpetrated by the French that the runway is on their land. When the runway was proposed to be extended in the late 50’s it was going to run into France but France and Switzerland came to a land swap agreement where both countries remained exactly the same size and Switzerland got their new runway and France got some nearby land in exchange. This has allowed the whole airport precinct to remain on Swiss soil and it still is. The plane lands in Switzerland, taxis on Swiss land and pulls into the terminal on Swiss land. There is a small French sector at the terminal itself that has been there since the 60’s as part of an agreement between France and Geneva Canton to allow the neighbouring French region to travel to the airport and and fly in/out without going through Swiss territory. If flying from France when you exit the plane your bags will first go to the French sector carousel and you collect them and then exit via the tunnel to the border point which by the way is just over the border and completely in France. You also have the option for your bags to go to the Swiss sector and you exit the airport normally. I’ve been through Geneva at least a dozen times in both directions over the years and it’s a much easier process these days

I’ve never flown in there from France. Just relating my own experience and that of our Missions in Geneva.

What sort of container do they ship him in? My bet one that’s impervious to all modern weaponry

He’s in the brand new luxury RAAF Maxy.
Some of our freighters aswell as regular passenger flights were cleared out the way by ATC to allow his flight a clean entry into Sydney. And he has now become the first King of Australia to step foot in Australia

Love him or loathe him, you have to be mightily impressed with those guns! He might have the ‘weight on his shoulders’ but you wouldn’t know it by looking at those arms :joy:

Agreed. Cannot stand the Royals

@Aceman I noticed the King flew in on one of our RAAF aircraft. Why the heck are we paying for this rich King to fly into Australia. Surely he can pay his own way here ?

The teals are the Liberal party’s worst nightmare.

They’re growing in popularity in ‘safe’ liberal seats around the country, is a nightmare for Dutton.

Maybe the Pocock influence, the Greens in the ACT lose two seats to the Independents. One of them goes to the son of Craig Emerson ( former ALP Federal Minister).
From memory, Pocock is a former Green.
As you were for the ALP and the Libs. ALP will continue in minority Government with the Greens.
Let’s see how the Greens fare in the Queensland State elections.

I don’t know if that’s the real case… That was the case pre 2022 but things have changed quickly. The Libs are picking up support and successfully targeting outer / suburban areas abandoned by Labor. They’re targeting families and more blue collar types who traditionally supported Labor. They’ve lost interest in focussing on areas where the Teals hold sway.

Labor, more focussed and concerned about the threat of Greens support in inner areas seem to be the party who have lost focus, moved away from their traditional values and heartland areas. This is being reflected in the polls and primary support of the parties.

This is almost the expected outcome?
