“ Peter Dutton has launched an extraordinary attack on the Labor MP Josh Burns, claiming that the Jewish politician has failed to speak up about antisemitism in the community, despite numerous public statements and speeches, including a joint press conference with a senior Coalition member hours after the Melbourne synagogue attack.
The opposition leader’s comments came just hours after the federal minister Chris Bowen accused the Coalition of “disgusting” attempts to politicise the attack on the Ripponlea synagogue, saying it should be a moment for national unity rather than political point-scoring.
Burns was quick to dismiss Dutton’s comments, saying his electorate office had been targeted and he has been standing up for his community “every day”.
Go to social media (even on this forum) the Left are supporting Palestine, the right are supporting Israel.
There is a lot of petty tit for tat. Obviously not all, but a lot.
The number 1 problem here, is that hundreds of thousands of civilians are being killed.
There are many people who live here in Australia, who have had multiple family members killed…… or lost contact with them and don’t know where they are.
There is not enough compassion, and far too much politics.
I do have a feeling this election cycle will be the most brutally toxic we’ve seen here. The left and the right haven’t been this far apart for a very long time.
Sorry, not that simple. Not sure you actually understand Left and Right.
The Socialist Left in the ALP is an example as supporters of Palestine and Israel have been arguing the case for 50 years in my experience. They are Comrades in socialist economics and workers rights, but this conflict is divisive. My Sister in the Liberal Party says they have similar divisions with groups supporting Israel, but most wanting a two state solution with a sovereign Palestinian state. The Greens are similar with overt support for Palestine but internal wars from Jewish Members.
Anyone who supports Hamas is personally invested in the matter with family or other close ties. Or is an extremist nutter.
what are you talking about ? all government ministers unanimously condemned the attack , all of them including Albanese said that the security agencies would determine the classification of the attack as was normal process . has eff all to do with frydenburg it dutton demanding them to do so instantly
I have no idea what some people here expected the PM to do 18 months ago. Perhaps they could explain it? Condemn hate speech more fiercely? Jail random protestors from one side?
And by the same token how the opposition leader castigating a Jewish politician and rabble rousing on the subject for political points is helping? That seems a much more established form of egregious behaviour from a leader.
I didn’t hear anyone other than condem the attack, within 3 days that have declared it and setup a federal task force into specifically antisemitism .
I hope the Australian public is not as stupid and thick as the american public is and falls for this absurd and utter nonsense of criticising everything for the sake of it
