Australian Policies -- from October 2024

Won’t cost much? What about the $20k worth of gas appliances that I love? Do I get a refund?

and that’s not even looking at commercial kitchens, commercial plant rooms with GJs, yes GJs worth of gas water heating capacity. it’s a huge undertaking.

My biggest bugbear is the “you’ll save heaps on your bills” with no mention whatsoever of the capex that goes into it. and interest free loans are great, but that means everyone is paying for it, and I’m not sure if anyone has noticed but our state finances are completely ■■■■■■. we’re not a federal economy, we can;t print more money, we have to pay our way out of this…

edit: following on from sal’s post.

yeah but wtf do you know? EXPERTS WERE EXTENSIVELY CONSULTED

Total costs of any change over will be less than $5,000, + more if you add the Govt incentives of about $500.

A ‘Choice’ recommended (review 2024) Induction cooker costs $2,299

A ‘Choice’ review (2024) Heat Pump Hot Water System costs $2199 before any Gov’t Rebates Note: They use technology similar to a split-system air conditioner to extract warmth from the surrounding air and move it

She visited our Labor branch to tell us all about transmission lines, telling us that the people complaining were “ratbags”, “rich farmers” and “LNP grubs”.

The Labor members were in uproar, as many of them were involved in the protests and consultation sessions. I was in the Chair, and had to shut Lily down, as she displayed anger and no respect. She walked out ! Not the first MP who has been bagged at a Labor meeting, but the first for me to turn tail and run away.

We asked for details and costings comparing transmission by towers or underground, which as the Minister we expected she knew, but nothing except cliches. We had two local MPs there, who both apologised after Lily ran away.

Good question, but I think they may be.

We have 80 amps coming in, and so induction heater and EV charger were ok. But friends in a new estate nearby have only 40 amps and that limits their options.

and if your house is hold as ■■■■ and needs a new power board?

matches my experiences from many years ago. she rocked up to an industry meeting, provided no details, couldn’t answer any questions and abruptly left. you know those people that give you no impression at all that they’re even half switched on? yeah, that’s her.

another event she told everyone that gas was in the state’s plans going forward, maintaining the infrastructure etc, nek minnit gas is banned.

I was being polite before, she strikes me as a complete numpty.

This is from Reddit:

If one sparky is quoting for a mains upgrade this will be the $4000 difference in price compared to the guy who has quoted to swap some 2 module RCDs to make physical room. Who is right and who is wrong depends on the details of your consumers mains the the maximum demand of the home.

So…worst case:
Add a $4,000 upgrade plus the cost of the induction cooker and heat pump Hot Water System, the total cost is $9,000.

This is half the $ of what some posters were quoting.

9k in a cost of living crisis, would be nice to struggle like some i guess?

reckon you got stitched up big time there buddy

not if its a brand like WOLF

national gas appliance buyback scheme

According to the latest transition plan, it’s open for consultation, with the statement that they want to hear

I was being polite as well. She is the longest serving Minister for Energy ever in Victoria and she has no idea about engineering or much technical. I have always thought that a Minister who leaves knowledge to assistants and consultants is a poor Minister. In fact, many of the ministerial staff have no experience or knowledge in technical matters. She does have an Arts Degree in Politics though, guess she didn’t attend the lessons on community engagement.

Most Ministers that I have encountered have been across all aspects of their portfolio, and while not all were good Ministers they did have an understanding of their job.

Lily has been an attack dog for the Labor Left for many years, as she has a nasty streak and a quick wit. Dan Andrews used her in State Parliament to snarl at others regularly.

In our case, our home switchboard was fit for purpose and had been rewired and upgraded before we bought the place. We did buy another place for Mrs Fox’s practice and it had been rewired but no switchboard upgrade, so when we put in larger air conditioning, it cost another $5000 to upgrade the switchboard etc.

You aren’t forced to change over

An , err, “interesting” juxtaposition against Duttons position on indigenous rights / flags etc and those who support him. Lmfao.
