Oh noes! What about all those green and yellow balloons they should display that day?

Can’t keep a sycophant down.

Nor stop a grifter from grifting. Either of them.

Ultimately it comes down to the individual. It’s the individual who needs to determine what is fact and what is truth. It’s easy to blame the media or others for the lack of clear thinking capabilities of an individual. It’s not hard to work out what angle different media outlets are travelling.

And I thought that Trump had better taste!!!

What ever made you think that???

This is true. Good post. Most media has a broad philosophical position and political leaning. Murdoch outputs are clearly conservative leaning. The ABC (Sydbey / Melbourne / national programs) and The Guardian are left leaning and outwardly push progressive issues and causes.

It’s up to the folk to decide what suits them based on their values and beliefs.

Challenge is finding unbiased media outlets that can be counted on to provide as much objectivity as possible for those wanting balance without political leaning.

Morning dave.
I agree to a small extent with your *broad philosophical approach *.
However , i find most right leaning news /information outlets to be intentionally vague when reporting most good news from labor and very specific when they report dollar amounts or projected cost blowouts etc.
Hardly balanced and far from informative if you want any facts to form any sort of informed opinion.
As a matter of fact , i find it impossible to feel like i can listen to a report ,and then hold an informed position on that report , at the end of the segment.
C 7 c9 news fit this category.
There are other opinion media ,that are just down right propaganda machines.
No attempt at balance , and what i mean by balance is just plain reporting what happened , no sensational headlines, no facial frowns ,no head wobbles, no waving of hands etc.
Sky news is a perfect example of why most australians have not got a clue about what is going on in this country and therefore unable to hold or make a valid assumption of what they have just been told.
Sensationalist ultra right thinking views that distort reality and spew lies as if fact.
The hun almost meets this criteria.
The abc has traditionally been left leaning in my opinion historically.
But , i think it used to appear more left because it was more just reporting what happened etc.
It has definitely changed nowdays.
I find the abc to be neither left or right , BUT definitely BOTH…
They have become fairly wishy-washy over all.
The guardian in my opinion is the most balanced but still lack any real depth in reporting.
It’s a pity that sparticist is no longer available.
Live long dave.

I agree. Good on him. He’s happy so good luck to him and his wife.

While I am not a fan of Scomo, he deserves to enjoy his life now. Afterall in his last job he held about 15 different roles. Everyone deserves downtime after all that work.

Good post Falcon.

I agree Sky News is outwardly and proudly conservative. There’s no doubt about that. I’m conservative but even I find watching their shows difficult at times. They openly take a strongly conservative view and even if it’s obvious a conservative view on a particular item is possibly not optimal, they still take it. I get frustrated st times when their commentators just take the strongly conservative view because it appears they ā€˜should’. I think it therefore can be too subjective and diminishes their credibility and it becomes unwatchable. Thst said, I still broadly agree with their leanings and generally agree with their arguments on most political issues, as a conservative would expected to!

I do think the ABC is too biased to the left in Sydney and Melbourne. I don’t think it’s balanced enough. I think in QLD it’s very impartial and I enjoy listening to their radio programs. In QLD It’s not overly political, it reports an issue, canvasses both sides and lets listeners decide… And I think that’s the way it ideally is. Especially given its taxpayer funded public broadcaster.

I still think there’s room for politically impartial media. People should be given choice and should be able to listen to media that represents their values. If it’s not the public broadcaster, taxpayer funded then it’s up to the people to choose what they want to listen to. Don’t read the HS, instead buy The Age or read The Guardian. Instead of watching Sky, keep watching Q&A!

Happy new year Falcon

Living in Queensland, do you tune into ABC Melbourne? The online news feeds don’t cover the broadcasts.

No, I enjoy listening to ā€˜ABC Brisbane / QLD’. I enjoy the brekky and morning hosts, they’re fun, chirpy and have good chemistry together. Steve Austin is the morning guy and I find his really interesting. He’s been doing his show for about 15-20 years (I think) and has a really interesting show with good discussion, guests and interesting debate.

Perhaps Media should not represent anyone’s value. They should report the facts, and not make any biased commentary. Forget about politics, but look at footy where the footy media is all about creating headlines and they do not care who they hurt. They love reporting a footballer in an altercation, but rarely if ever report the truth.

I think that journalists have let down their profession badly in the last 40 years.

In that case, how did you form your opinion that ABC Melbourne is too biased to the left?

he didn’t form it, he copy-pasted it

The ABC is the most trusted news organisation in Australia, it’s probably the most regulated and with the most oversight.

It’s not biased. It’s underfunded, and got some LNP stooges working there, but that’s about it.
