I’ve cast my vote and so far managed to avoid the campaign.
I threw my peanuts on the floor at raffles hotel and thought it summed up political discourse in Australia

I am, humorous/sadly true @simmo41 hashtags aside.
In response to your point, which isn’t invalid, I’d point out that the only reason we have a two party system is that the three parties who make up the two parties, plus their media mate, want it that way.
The one time the greens were included in the leaders debates their primary vote went up sharply.
Amazing what can happen when you have a platform.
Edit: maybe a @barnz hashtag.
I thought this was Simmo. I apologise.
nah its simmo but i will like it every time
Did you throw in a “DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM?”
Morrison isn’t showcasing his energy and environment Minister Angus Taylor. He seems to be MIA, while Chris Bowen gets to appear in interviews. Libs leaving it to the Nats to run with climate change and say different things to different interest groups.
Frydenberg is going to lose his seat isn’t he? Couldn’t even drum up a an overblown anti semitism campaign to save himself.
That’s going to be a highlight of election night regardless of the total result.
Same with Sharma. People might not like the super rich so much of the eastern suburbs of Sydney, but they are a smart electorate and kick out corrupt frauds.
I would like to see the Greens included, but I’m not sure how you do that while banning ON.
The women spoke to 9Honey Parenting ahead of Mother's Day this week to highlight the importance of friendsh...
Neither of the major parties want the Greens included, so they won’t be. There’s not some sort of impartial commission who decides how a debate is run or who runs it or the criteria that determine who’s invited, it something the major parties argue out between themselves.
Trump is many things, but his lasting impact on democratic politics will be (or has been) the number of pollies who’ve recognised how many of the conventions and traditions that restrain or compel them have no real power whatsoever. Election debates are one of those things. The debates need the major party pollies more than the pollies need the debates, so the major party pollies can set the rules. The ALP and Libs don’t agree on much, but blocking the Greens from getting a seat at the table is very much one of those things. The Libs scare campaign requires that their voters believe the greens are what the Libs say they are rather than what the greens actually are, and the ALP would very much prefer that everyone forgot the Greens existed so that they could monopolise the anti-Morrison vote and not have to talk about awkward stuff like coal.
If the Greens started getting ~20% first preference votes at elections rather than ~11%, then things might change. But that’s a reaaaal long way off, and even so, the major parties would fight it every step of the way.
I would like to see the Greens included, but I’m not sure how you do that while banning ON.
Maybe impose a 10% threshold on likely primary vote?
Or just say “no racist, climate denialist, Qanon spouting, sovcit, antivaxx ■■■■■■■■”.
I’d like to believe that the worst thing for ON would be to put Pauline in front of the nation like that and let everyone see her for the idiot she is.
I’d really like to.
I’d like that too. Sadly, she has an audience.
Why did you post this?
Lol because he’s a strange unit?
Edit: still think Scomo is a racist even if its just for the sake of getting votes.
cringey
Why did you post this?
It’s an example of the Morrison governments media coverage on channel 9
Jen has a friend, even though most of his colleagues despise him, he can’t be all bad if she’s stuck by him .
gees albo’s final statement at the end of the debate was gold, genuine tingles and a tear to the eye
Basically listed out every single major issue facing Australia, from aged care, to women’s issues, to climate change, saying we need to do it right now, then finishing with saying you’ll never hear these 4 words from me, It’s, not, my, job. Spoke with passion and genuinity for the only time in the debate then and totally owned Morrissons “yeah i’m ■■■■ but i’m the rape covering up corrupt lying piece of ■■■■ you know” which was really an own goal.
I also thought it was pretty ■■■■■■■ pathetic of both of them to keep talking over the hosts. Like that was embarrassing for everyone involved and made Australian politics look really ■■■■■■■ stupid.
This was a strange match day thread!
Sounds like Channel Costello did what was expected and made us that little bit smaller and stupider. It’s been a long couple of decades to get to this but gee they’ve paid off.
Be terrible if the LNP lose, from an image perspective, but really it’s just a chance to go super wrecking ball for 3 years before getting shipped back in by what should by then be the concentrated and orchestrated resources of Lachlan, Kerry and Peter with the IPA wingnuts designing the handmaid uniforms.
