Australian Politics -- From early August 2022

Remember when Christian Porter labelled him as just another shiny sweaty navy lawyer.

He did say there was a vacancy at Richmond.

Bombers win triggers another resignation.

WA is a state in mourning
RIP state daddy :joy:

How long will it take the Murfuck Empire to start the innuendo about the “real” reason McGowan is leaving ?

But let’s look on the bright side: his successor will likely be a female left-winger…

I assume it was because he was vaccinated.
Ditto the reason for Dimma quitting.

Or was it the pizza shops and the sex trafficking?

Listening to Linda Reynolds, it’s been the State of Disaster under the Emperor.
Cult of McGowan.

Disaster for her Lib lot anyway ! And of course he’s not even a real dinky-di West Australian. Born in NSW - went to uni in QLD.

Probably got his degree courtesy of the Navy.

In the PwC context, there was mention of around 10k employees of consultants embedded in the Commonwealth Public Service under Consultancy contracts (mostly with PwC).
Murray Watt , the Ag Minister explained the PwC consultancy in his Dept as flowing from the Coalition freeze on filling PS positions.
Whatever the cost, the employees of consultants have their first loyalty to their employer. They are working alongside others governed by the PS Act and who are bound by the PS Code of Conduct. Their legal duty is to act and behave as servants of the public.
Dutton has been doing Canberra bubble dog whistling on the Government program to increase PS numbers. A journo should ask him if he still holds to that.

He has looked like he has been burnt out the last couple of weeks, losing patience dealing with BS issues the media kept asking about.

But this is bad news for ALP, despite their buffer in WA. History shows when a very popular premier pulls the pin, there is a huge swing away from the party.

Amber-Jade is v capable but not enough experience yet IMO

Yeah, I’d say most people have got better things to do in their life than listen to her garbage

Could do that after spending time more wisely, such as cleaning the toilet.

But then would have to clean it again.

She is a quick learner and as tough as nails. Though you Sandgropers can be very hard on new Leaders.

Always useful to see both sides.
The program also had Patrick Gorman on the WA ALP side. Two contrasting views and a pointer to what the Libs will run with at the next State elections. Gorman pretty much left it to Reynolds to do the talking.
As you noted in your post, when a popular leader pulls the pin, there is a swing away.
You would have a closer view of his likely successor and how well they would be known in the electorate, but based on today’s show, there does not appear to be an anointed heir apparent. The next Premier, who should be appointed by the end of the week, has 20 months to make their mark.
Compared to the way other Premiers ran their Covid pressers, McGowan was a standout in running them as a one man band. Reynolds had a point in that regard in painting him as the Emperor.
Those outside WA would be hard pressed to name any Minister in McGowan’s Government. IDK how it is seen in WA.

Yeah. Roger Cook is most capable and also moved to politics after a career in the military. He gave up the Health portfolio a couple of years ago, and it was reported as he was positioning himself to take over as leader in due course. He is good but prob lacks charisma for the hoi polloi

I already remarked about A-J. Too early for her I think - only her first term as Health Minister [replacing Cook)

The other candidate is Rita Saffioti. She has the highest profile of the three candidates, but IMHO she is a knucklehead who has somehow escaped much scrutiny. If she gets the job, the Libs may well get back in at the next election. [You can bookmark that.]

Amber-Jade Sanderson set to become the next WA Premier after receiving factional backing over Roger Cook.
