Australian Politics -- from June 2023

half way there:

That’s my own conclusion

We do indigenous disadvantage in one of the subjects I teach. Many students think nt is like 80% indigenous, it’s closer to 28%.

Hypotheticaly if people voted along racial lines (not saying they did), that nt vote kinda checks out

It’s a strong speech about fulfilling a promise.

pathetic speech-we all want better outcomes not only for First Nations people but for ALL citizens. Base support on need not race.

Was pretty easy to find clear concise simple information.

Those who didn’t did it by choice or listened to people who spread misinformation.

He’s shifting the goal posts so he can walk away with a semblance of pride. The goal was not to get a referendum up and running. The goal was to get it voted up. He failed.

Not sure why you need to resort to personal attacks for feeling that.

I never said he isn’t speaking from his heart.

why is that pathetic?

What kind of person calls that want pathetic?

I didn’t think that it was a model that would achieve meaningful change but I voted yes because it was an step towards reconciliation that cost me nothing and would be a kick in the teeth to indigenous people if it didn’t get up.

I can’t understand why anyone thought it was worth voting down, but I’m not accusing anyone of racism either

Give it a rest

He’s not shifting the goal post at all. Thats the point (which you obviously missed).

The end goal is the same. He’s just going to try different things.

It was a good speech.

Normally Albo slurs like a drunkard much more than that.

Sweet. Go ask some genuine questions somewhere.

There’s only about 27 percent of the NT population who are Indigenous. The NT result will be used by many to paint various scenarios.

ā€˜Clear concise simple information’ found nowhere that spelled out nothing about this proposed body, its make-up, its powers, its responsibilities or its mandate. (All ā€˜TBD’ - at a future date to be determined). No wonder people didn’t vote Yes.

So were you against the proposal’s intention or more the process?

Design principles were pretty clear

Consulting body
Elected by indigenous people
Regional, remote and diverse representation
No program delivery
Funding for research
No decision making power
Clear governance framework
Reporting and transparency
Members subject to national anti corruption commission
