Australian Politics, Mark II

There are some oddities with the “Special Hospital Team 1” and “Special Hospital Team 2” polling booths. Both show as zero votes on the main page, but Team 1 has votes if you click through (around +150 to the Liberals – you’re in freaking hospital and you disproportionally vote for them?!?).

Apparently, this weekend has special Jewish significance, therefore the majority may have done postal votes. Hence, the large Lib preference in the postal votes.

Both Special Hospital groups now added to the tally.
Difference is 884

You sack the member of Wentworth as PM and he quits parliament of course there is going to be consequences.

Phelps is far far away from a Labor candidate.

A large independent vote just will continue the same trend.

Enough people have just had a gutful of the two major political parties.

And our democracy is broke in that it’s nigh almost impossible for a decent third alternative to gain power.

Governments lose elections and its never been so true as it is now, and if… sorry when the libs lose the next one, Bill ‘Bradbury’ Shorten will be PM.

Even if Libs hold one by one vote, this is an unmitigated disaster within the seat and sets the tone in the lead up to the next election.

Anyone considering running? Might be a few Steve Bradbury’s in parliament this time next year.

Hmmm, … well I do have a Baseball cap around here somewhere, …

If you ran as an Independent in a safe Liberal or Labor seat, then you would need to already have a profile with the electorate like Phelps, have about $250,000 to spend and have 50 to 80 people prepared to work like Fark for you.

Easier in a marginal but still need to spend big bucks.

You do get back about $2 for every primary vote you get, about $40,000 or a bit more maybe in Phelps case.

Nah, have another spill and put Tone or Dutton in. That’ll turn that ship around.

Antony Green still confident Phelps has enough, …:crossed_fingers:

What have they got, another 20,000 to count? Hmm. This thing ain’t over.

Seems unlikely then.

Do you think we will (or have already) see major polictical parties fund ‘independents’ to help win seats where they don’t think the can win?

Is do parties need to declare where their funding comes from for this type of tactic?

12860 postal votes were issued according to Pollbludger - this will translate to 9329 formal votes.
AEC shows some 5200 counted. Assuming he’s right, 4000 votes to count, breaking at 65% to the libs, Sharma in with big show of catching Phelps.

Or, could have voted pre-poll, which is simpler than applying a fair time in advance for a postal vote.

Gotta back-in Antony Green here.

Rarely, if ever, does he get it wrong.

Chris Kenny raging against Turnbull as being a traitor to the Liberal Party by not standing, or at least not campaigning.

Thanks to RoCo on Twitter for keeping me informed as to this buffoon’s ranting. I’d never heard of him before RoCo.

Although, in this case, he has acknowledged that the postal votes might be more favourable to Sharma, if they were done prior to the Senate vote for Hanson and the fiasco of the possible Embassy move.
