Gun buy back … hard pressed to think of anything else in 50 years
Solid example though
They did essentially govern over SSM
Did it in the most ■■■■■■ up de-humanising and heinous way possible
But they did.
Renewable Energy Target was legislated by Howard.
You could also argue some of the middle class welfare stuff is progressive.
E.g first home buyers grant.
Oh and $500 million to protect the reef
Billy McMahon was seriously incapable of being a PM - Strange how younger people question your experience and wisdom.
Except the FHBG has been around since Adam was a lad.
Well at least since I was & built my first at 19, 30 odd years ago.
And I can’t remember 100% positive, … but I believe that was a Labor (Hawke) initiative.
@Bacchusfox will likely know for sure if it was.
Dragged to it absolutely kicking & screaming, and finally, with gritted teeth., only when they coudn’t not do it anymore.
There’s no feather in their cap there.
This PM didn’t vote on it anyway.
All I remember is that when my Sister purchased a house in 1969 it was worth $500. Think it was similar when I bought my first home in 1974, so I guess that makes it a Liberal initiative. Some would argue it is not progressive though.
It is really hard to believe that some-one could be worse than Abbott though.
Sadly he was.
Ummm, really? Your definition of “progressive” seems to be way broader than most I reckon. And was sacking TA really to implement something positive for us, the voters? Or rather, was it merely to hold off the mob, baseball bats raised, that was coming for them at the ballot box? Saving their own skins, I reckon. But if that’s what you want call progressive, have at it…
Checked you sense of humour at the door did you?
Lighten up princess … 'twas but a humorous aside
*oh ok … and a potshot at Tone.
No. First home grant was a Hawke/Keating thing, guaranteed. I bought my present home in 1984, while on the dole (temporarily). It was worth three and a half thousand dollars lump sum towards deposit, and the rest monthly over five years coming to about six and a half. It was seven thousand if it was all taken monthly. It was terrific.
Reversing something they put through in 2004 isn’t really progressive if you ask me.
That’s a lot in 1984 dollars.
They did essentially govern over SSM

They also governed over the 2016 Bulldogs finals run and premiership
If you check Dr Google it will tell you that John Howard and Peter Costello introduced it to offset GST costs on 1st July 2000.
I know that I got one in 1974 and my Sister did in 1969.
