Australian Politics, Mark II

Morrison wise to give it a miss - he would have been booed for not answering the questions.
Barrie Cassidy has noted his refusal to appear on Insiders. Perhaps he thought he could get away with bullying Sales.

I’ve often heard it said the Sales leans towards the Libs, and reckon I may have seen evidence of a bias that way over time, but never been able to say ā€œYep, for sureā€.

Maybe it’s true?

The only problem on Q&A tonight was the usual one — Jones’s ego, although by using a lot of Tory buzzwords in his questions and comments he’s finally revealed himself as a Tory would-be intellectual. Shorten had to slap him back into his box a couple of times, but not as often as was merited. The sooner the Fat Controller goes to China the better.

I’ve never seen Billy Boy so in control of himself and his audience. His performance was masterly – even presidential.

I don’t know if I’ll tune in Wednesday – I doubt whether I’ll be able to stand Scummo’s nonstop lies and personal invective in substitute for policy statements.

I do recall what was probably the Rudd V Howard debate.

They had that worm tracker, and even before Howard spoke it just flatlined, then went back up with Rudd. Flatlining each time Howard spoke.

I reckon that’s what Morrison is faced with right now. People turned off months ago. They’ve seemingly done nothing for 6 years, and the last 6 months have been excruciating. That’s why there’s been so many early voters, the people are done.

Feeling way more relaxed since the first debate,

Q&A just reinforced that.

Bill has hit his straps, and become more like I’ve always wanted to see him be at last. Confidence is a transformative thing, … and he has transformed since gaining it.

Has ScuMo on the back foot completely, on the run & hiding, proving once & for all, he is the Ultimate Squiberal.

Just finished watching, he was easily the best I’ve seen him, I can actually see what BF has been talking about. But I didn’t like his answer on Adani

I’m going to stick my neck out and predict if he keeps this new spirit & persona up, he will best ScuMo in the preferred PM stakes before Polling day.

And if that happens, … it would in all likelihood be a very solid win.

I am never wrong on these things, young Grasshopper.

And beni, a Labor Government will never approve ADANI

Serious question BF, in your opinion are Labor just hedging their bets by obfuscating on the Adani question, hoping they can curry on both sides until they’re in federally? And if so, then what?

that’s the biggest build up to a BSD nickname ever!

I think she liked Turnbull. Not sure about others.

Bill was impressive last night, but I still can’t work out why they give ground and never challenge the line that the Liebrials are the best economic managers.

Don’t know why when Scummo trots it out that Bill doesn’t just ask how the debt is going since the last Labour Govt? Where have you parked the old Debt Road Train Scummo as it is about seven times bigger since the great economic managers have got into power (and I know that debt isn’t everything and ours is pretty low really but it was all they could bleat about a few years back). edit said deficient - meant debt.

Sales can’t win. Too soft on Morrison, Too hard on Shorten. The other side says the opposite.

Agree, ideally they need to find a way to convince people that debt and deficit arent the be-all-and-end-all when it comes to managing a national economy.

Pointing out the where the country’s economy had been ranked under labor governments wouldnt hurt either.

Neither would pointing out the 2 Australian treasurers who have been awarded the ā€œtreasurer or the yearā€ by the IMF(?) were both treasurers in a Labor Government.

They could point to the source of the whole ā€œLabor can’t manage moneyā€ hysteria, the Whitlam Government, as being the government that planted the seed for all the future economic success in this country.

They should be using Climate Change to show how inept the Libs are at understanding the economic revolution occurring as we speak.

More importantly they need to find a way to get the antagonistic media that favours the Libs by treating them with kids gloves and going along with all their fact less propaganda, to actually do their jobs and inform the public as to which party actually has sustainable economic policies that address the triple bottom line of said issues.

You know that one about how countries with the word Democratic in the name are anything but? Apply similar thinking to the names of parties you don’t recognise.

You mean the Pirate party are not Pirates?

Damn it, I’ve been voting to be overthrown by pirates for ages.

It’s infuriating. So many sticks to hit these idiots with and they revert to spin script 95% of the time. Doesn’t have to be overly negative, just some salient observations and a bit of mongrel. Need more Wong in the mix, and the Plib

She didn’t even get it to break ffs, … that’s not how to go about it at all!

Did she take a hard boiled one by mistake? :smirk:

Others may disagree, but it is a reasonable position to take before you win Government to wait for the full and frank assessment of the sovereign risk in stopping Adani.

And there is the Political consideration that you have existing local MPs, hopes for one or two more and a strong Union campaign for Adani.

It is easy from Melbourne to protest Adani having no need to worry about jobs and feeding your Family, and it is easy for Greens to oppose Adani and make claims about it when you will never win Government to enact your Policy.

One notable thing about this Shorten campaign is that it is measured, balanced and firmly under control. All that said, Labor will not approve Adani.
