Next sat night should be interesting!

Well thats hard to take, dominate a game and still lose 4-3. Was a cracker game, would of loved to atleast split the points. Credit to Viccy at one stage I thought we could run over them

Bit much to say you dominated the game. You had your good spells as did we, thought the match was pretty even throughout the whole night.

Crucial 3 points but with ACL coming, not sure we have the depth in the squad to do anything in both competitions. Must beat Heart this week, even if it means we sacrifice the match in China.

Spot on on both parts.

The game was 50/50. If I was an AU fan id be more upset about eugene spazzing it twice.

Had my second preseason friendly for Gisborne SC yesterday played Victoria Park SC in Ballarat and had a 2-1 Win.

Obviously im looking through red glasses but I thought we dominated possession by a fair bit but couldnt find our way through a pretty tight defence as often as I would of liked, am yet to see the stats but I would think the shots would be fairly level. As ive said ripper of a game and would of loved to share the points but not to be.
With the whole ACL issue I think thats where the Aussie teams attitude is wrong, should be trying to win games in Asia even if it means sacrificing a league game. The best way for soccer to grow in this country is by winning comps abroad and getting entry into the World Club Cup and the exposure that comes with it.

I agree, however not this week. Not against Heart.

Yep.

With heart being in the form they are in this is a danger game without having a game in chinda agaisnt asia's richest club midweek. These blokes have half the chinese national side write it off and focus on the derby.

Fair point, forgot it was the derby this week

IF heart get into the finals they will do damage.

Melbourne Derby final watch is on too. We must finish 3rd and heart 6th for an elimination derby final.

Cup gives grassroots chance to be giant-killers

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today confirmed the format of the inaugural FFA Cup in 2014, with draw principles that give grassroots clubs every chance to be giant-killers against the elite of the Hyundai A-League.

Preliminary matches involving over 600 clubs across Australia have commenced this month ahead of the national knock-out FFA Cup Round of 32 kicking off in late July.

That is the stage when the 10 Hyundai A-League clubs will join the 22 clubs who will have qualified from feeder cup competitions in eight states and territories – Queensland, NSW, Northern NSW, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.

A live Round of 32 draw will occur in late June this year and will see four Round of 32 matches in which Hyundai A-League clubs will be the away team against semi-professional or amateur clubs at suburban or regional venues.

The draw principles will ensure the “giant-killer” interest will run throughout the competition, with a minimum of one non Hyundai A-League club reaching the Semi-Finals stage, a minimum of three in the Quarter-Finals and a minimum of nine in the Round of 16.

At today‘s launch at the home of National Premier Leagues club Rockdale City Suns, FFA CEO David Gallop unveiled the FFA Cup trophy, an impressive piece of footballing silverware that will be up for grabs at the Cup Final on 16 December.

“The FFA Cup has taken on an almost mythical status among football fans who have longed for a national knock-out cup competition to fill a void in the football calendar,” said Gallop.

“Today, the FFA Cup comes to life as a very tangible link between community football and the professional tier. It‘s a unique sporting link from the locals to the legends.

“We all grew up with the romance of the English FA Cup and well remember the history of upsets. I‘m sure the FFA Cup will bring the same fascination to fans across Australia.”

FFA today announced that Fox Sports has been appointed as the Official Broadcaster of the FFA Cup. The Fox Sports coverage will include a minimum of 10 matches from the Round of 32 onwards, including all Quarter-Finals, both Semi-Finals and the FFA Cup Final.

Interesting, very interesting, very, very, very interesting. I love this idea a lot, potentially pitting say Oakleigh Cannons against Perth Glory, however it may take a while for clubs to take it seriously as anything other than Mickey Mouse but I hope not. I like the design of the trophy, a bit derivative but they definitely got that one right compared to the beloved toilet seat. I'd be curious to know where the 'neutral' final gets played, possibly Homebush?

My qualm however is this though, NINE farking teams from NSW and only four from Victoria and four from Queensland!?! Someone with a closer knowledge of state league football feel free to correct me, but are these number a steaming pile of horse cack?

Soccer is massive in NSW and I think have the most playing at that level. ration of 9:4 though is a bit rough.

I like the concept and the idea of it, the fact that we could see Melbourne Victory play South Melbourne would be awesome, provided those greeks leave their flares and ■■■■ behind.

It will start as a mickey mouse competition but if there is good prizemoney plus showcasing the talents of the lower leagues, it could be really good for the game.

9?

There's 8 lower tier clubs from NSW, as well as 2 more from "Northern NSW" = 10.

Of 23 qualifiers.

And the round of 32 will have 14 (10 lower tier + the 4 NSW A league clubs).

Seems legit...

Hmm I read seven from NSW plus the extra two from northern NSW.

I think those numbers (the 22 from regional leagues) are separate from the ten A-League clubs and if that's the case, I think it'd be fair to say that NSW statewide probably deserve extra numbers but by a total of five? I think not. Otherwise HAP, yes it is legit.

I'm hungover, brain's a bit broken.

that would do great things for the game down here in Melbourne, whoever was to win. Would probably force footy off the back pages for a few days!
