I got what I assume to be a phishing email which, scarily, referenced my BB password.
IIRC, I only use this pw at BB, so I guess the BB user database may have been hacked & sold sometime in the past.

Glad no one else has had this.

I think it’s an automated email for when your post quality improves.

I won’t be seeing it anytime soon.

I did. Demanded $1800 or would release all my details.

Did you get the email overnight?

Yes

Yeah I’ve copped an email that lists my password but not for what site as it was a generic password that I used for a few sites. Was awhile ago now. Its scary seeing your password in the subject line and it threatening to release some video of you. Knows that I’ve read the email bla bla and have a few days to deposit cash in account - scary couple of weeks and then you forget about it, when nothing happens. I assumed that another forum was hacked but maybe it was this one - as I use a generic password for forum sites like this and may have used it at one time or another in the old site. But really I couldn’t care less if someone uses my username/password here pretending to be me.

I got an email like that - subject line says “we know your password is #####1

(where ####=first name). Obviously a pissweak phishing attempt so deleted it without going further.

Yep, I got very similar email. But nothing actually personalised except password & email address. As you say, scary at first to see your pw in subject line, but seems data breaches of user credentials are commonplace. Is BB a common denominator here?

It could be but I got my email an age ago. I would have thought they would just send emails out to everyone in one go rather than spreading them out over a period of time. I always thought a music forum that I could no longer log into may have been the culprit - domain name for this forum has since come up for sale.

If that’s the one threatening that they have password, have hijacked your pc and claim to now have video of you waxing-the-carrot to p or n (or something similar…) it’s been doing the rounds for a while now. In my case, it definitely stems from when LinkedIn was hacked…

Scammers need to be publicly punished - horsewhipping, pilloried or tarred and feathered.

Repeat offenders publicly executed.

So all these years I’ve been calling you a ****ing #### - and it was your real first name!

Got one yesterday, Somehow these scammers got an old password of mine from some site they hacked. You will recognise the password but its probably not your email password. Microsoft live hotmail etc was hacked about a year ago, but reports of the extent of information obtained are sketchy.
Its probably a good idea to strengthen your passwords and change them more often.

Fortunately not a lot of people use yahoo mail. I have been approached by several scammers in the past who have stolen the yahoo contact list of some of my contacts. The said their cc’s were stolen and they needed to pay the hotel bill. Most likely yahoo lifted their security since then.
