BBFFL#2 2017 Discussion

This may not be possible, or popular, but what do people think about brining the trimming deadline forward to Saturday night so (if possible) the spread sheet could get sent round on Sunday. Ain’t no way I can give that sheet my undivided attention until after the kids are in bed on Monday night which will kinda of slow the whole draft down.

Just a thought.

What is the benefit of having them as lti unless you have first dibs on them

Players on the LTI list are still your players. When it comes time for them to come back on your list you can either delist them or another player to bring your list back to the appropriate number.

It’s basically the same as it is in the AFL

Yep.

Nominate your 20 keepers.

Submit any you think are eligible for LTI.

Approval will result in a pick post-180 as an add-on to the draft.

trying to remember how we apply LTIs ahead of the draft.

I know that LTI players effectively don’t count until after the submission of 20 keepers.

But from memory, they can then be added, with an extra pick received at the end of the draft? @saladin

If so, would like to LTI Allen Christensen, who was listed as 8-10 weeks on the Brisbane site today (http://www.lions.com.au/news/2017-02-28/three-lions-on-the-mend). The 10 weeks would mean he’s still more than 8 weeks out at the time of our draft.

Love the Q&A team.

Just one thing - Free Agency priority is set from the results of Round 1 rather than last year.

Thanks for the clarification RB.

Yeah, once they are on the list, they are yours.

But you have to open a spot by putting someone in the lti first? Can you get them back off the lti? If they come off the lti what happens to your FA?

You only put players that will miss minimum 8 weeks on the LTI list (Any player nominated for LTI must be injured and set to miss an extended period. It’s not a list to manipulate your team)

When you bid for a FA player, you nominate a player to delist at the same time.

If you get your FA player, you lose the player you nominated to delist for good (He goes back into the FA pool) and the FA player is now on your 30 man list for good.

Like i said before, once UF is all set up it will make more sense to you.

OK, makes sense now, thanks.

Yeah, once they are on the list, they are yours.

yeah that’s correct, you would have to delist someone or put another eligible player on the lti list.

OK great, that makes sense. Do you retain FA players fit the rear of the year with the option to retain at the end of the year?

It’s a risk/reward thing when you use the restricted free agent order as well.

I think with pazza being 2nd last, last year you’ll start #2 on the Waiver list order.

You can take the average player for bench cover, but then that moves you down to 18th in the queue. The following week a rookie might get upgraded or FA first year player might be getting a game, but then you’ll probably be too far down the list to get them.

So do you risk waiting for FA to try and land the player? Or do you pounce early and bid on them, which then could effect your ability to get a popular player down the track.

Eg.

Week 1:
Ivan #2 on RFA. bids on Joe Bloggs
Wezza #3 on RFA. bids on Joe Bloggs
Friday morning RFA’s processed -
If cafegaret at #1 RFA order doesnt bid, then Ivan being lowest receives email saying successful, me being lower receives email saying unsuccessful (and then moves onto any subsequent bids we may/may not have made)

After the RFA’s are processed, the players left are Free Agents and can be picked up without affecting your RFA order. Eg. You could pick up John Citizen. Free Agents are locked before bounce on Friday.

Week 2:
Adelaide announce that CEY does his knee and are upgrading Ben Jarman to play this week. Jarman is currently in the FA pool.
Wezza #2 on RFA
Ivan #18 on RFA.
If we both bid on Jarman and team @ #1 on RFA order doesn’t bid, then he’s mine.

Thanks, that all makes sense now

How big is the FA pool in terms of guys getting actual senior games?

Not too many teams are picking regulars being number 30 on their list.

Sounds like FA couldn’t be a particularly reliable way of avoiding a donut.

Experience from last year says there are limited Mids or Rucks in the free agency pool that will play in any given week. Limited meaning maybe 0.

Backs there are almost always garbage players available who will play (your Zac Dawsons of the world).
Forwards somewhere between. Not always available, but more common than mids or rucks.

Injuries are a killer. Plenty of coaches are struggling to field full teams and there have been some very handy players picked up via FA.

Look at it this way -
AFL teams field 22 players each - 18 x 22 = 396
We have 18 teams x 30 each = 540
So there isn’t a lot in FA although a young bloke pops up every now and then.

So we don't select the FA ît is just allocated? Presumably you get a listed player not selected best 20 but picked in the relevant senior side

You are basically bidding on a player that is not on any ones list. If someone who is a higher priority than you bids on the same player, they get him.
If you have a sucessful bid, you delist a player at the same time and get the player you bid for and go to the end of the waivers, so next week you will theoretically last priority.

Once our lists are confirmed and updated in UF, you can go in have a look at the FA pool and it will make a lot more sense.
