I was told once that anything on the hard drive can always be recovered until it is completely written over. What do you reckon @Glu

“Australian soldiers have told prosecutors they executed unarmed civilians at the orders of Ben Roberts-Smith or in complicity with him, according to a statement of facts tendered to the New South Wales local court.”

Depending what tools people have to recover data, a lot of data can be recovered from burned drives, for example.

The most effective way to get rid of data is rewriting all sectors 3+ times.

A strong electromagnet may do the trick. Or an EMP device, if you have the resources and need a quick wipe.

Microwave?

Or has Mr Robot had me replacing microwaves for no reason?

If I really really had a drive i wanted to make sure that nobody could recover data from, I’d probably make use of an angle grinder. Here’s the pile of metal and silicate dust, Mr forensic guy - go to it.

Who uses magnetic drives these days?

I find it quite bizzare that the right wing have just slotted straight in behind this bloke as the next culture war hero. Completely ignoring or blindly dismissing what people who have worked with him have said about him already under oath .

Like its all just some cooker JFK type conspiricy. They say they have spent 300 million going after him and that alone seems to be the proof that is all its just a stitch up, without explaining how that has anything to do with his innocence or not. Or why would they just go after him?

It’s quite bizzare and I would never in a million years have picked this as the new culture warfront

To be fair, the left want to lynch him, the right want to rescue him. This is all politics from the start.

Who wants to lynch him? I have heard no such talk. Only thing Ive heard amongst my peers is you cant kill unarmed hancuffed non solidier war prisoners. His fellow soldiers testafied against him, not the so called left wing press, LOL this has zero to do with the left, he was the one that brough a law suit aginst media you would hardly call left wing and comprehensively lost in every level of the system.

What BS. The left has generally just said if he’s done what he’s accused of he should have the book thrown at him.

Weird take man… people are upset because the government has spent $300m+ to pin a rotten culture on our most decorated soldier. Labor spending is just about the coalitions favourite gotcha topic. Now They have given 5 others immunity to throw him under the bus so they can get a scalp, which looks very much like protecting their mates in the brass who were quite obviously aware and complacent with our SAS conduct.

It was always going to be a political issue, particularly with an orchestrated public arrest. You just need to read up on this thread to see people comparing ANZACS to nazis…

I’m always intrigued when right-wingers accuse others of being left-wing simply because they hate right-wingers. They may have little in common with the right’s general arseholiness and not much sympathy for quite a few elements of wokeness, but it doesn’t fit you in alongside the Greens.

For example, I’m not too tolerant of the softly, softly approach to violent criminals and think more of the community’s safety than criminals’ rights, but I’m not a left-winger. I have utter contempt for people who think there’s a simple solution like MAGA and Hanson applaud, and I heartily disapprove of people-born-men being allowed to participate in women’s sports where physicality is foremost.

The fed cops had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything by “lefties” (well, Nine, so about as left leaning as a fossil fuel company) who put it on the front page.

So much of the narrative on this is just utter horseshit being peddled by absolute liars or idiots.

You’re right, it should have been orchestrated privately, like his attempts to destroy evidence, his attempts to intimidate witnesses, and his abhorrent behaviour towards his partner.

Most of these accusations came out of a federal inquiry in 2016. His defamation case launched in 2018.

Why has it taken the Feds 8 or 10 years to act on any of this?
