Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

Fair enough if your view is that it is ‘propoganda’. I don’t see this as part of club culture - it is an external instrument aimed at supporters. If it’s not for you then that’s fine.

The club would be very aware, particularly through social media, the growing supporter attitude towards Rutten.

Especially after going 3-11 when losing embarrassingly to the bottom club at the time.

This type of video comes around at a good time for him and the club…

Now if only we had Aragorn doing the pre-game address

I think we are building. Sounds stupid but we have now got more wins over top 8 teams than lst season.
We’ve found Massimo, Martin and Hobbs that will be serious players.
Add to Perkins, Cox, Reid, Jones, Durham, Draper and co, we actually have a seriously exciting and talented list. Add Sheezel, Daveys etc and maybe a free agent and I’m convinced there’s good times coming.

You sound young.

I like the way he (seemingly, we don’t really know) speaks to the group. It is balanced and measured, with some emphasis at times to focus attention on some key points.

You can’t just rant and rave, attempting to force an emotional response gets very old very quickly, turning into just noise. These are professional athletes, grown men that want to win, their desire for success needs to come from within rather than being driven by fear of an external voice.

The players need to be treated like professionals if we are to hope they will display those attributes on the field.

An interesting aspect of that pregame speech was the emphasis on “flexibility” as a strength.
Given it was, as others have pointed out, succinct and focused on only a few key things, it makes me wonder how much this concept of “flexibility” has been used as a key thing we’ve been working on this season.
And as a point of difference to other teams, or an identifiable element of other good teams.

I’m not. 46. I know how bad we’ve been and this year has sucked.
We have heaps of young talent. Yes, the club has issues but I do believe that we will be good soon. Is Truck the man to lead? I don’t know. But there is talent there and it’s the right age to grow together and actually contend for a good period of time.
It’s going to be glorious when we are good, can’t wait to hang ■■■■ on everyone who’s given it to us over our lack of finals wins.

Waiting for our version of #thestreak DVD Box Set to be released when we win two in a row.

It wasn’t exactly Any Given Sunday was it.

Last year after our loss to sydney the club put up a similar video. Fans want to see behind the scenes footage so the club posts it. Thats all there is to it.

Rutten’s speech wouldnt exactly have you running through a wall for your teammate. Each to their own however

Yep. A 3 point loss on the road against a premiership fancy when we were $7 outsiders. Coming off a 12 goal win the previous week.

Very different.

I think the running commentary on how Truck delivers his pre game address is a bit lame.

Fact is that he addressed the team, implored them to rectify the shitfest that was last Sydney game and leave a better impression with members, and guess what, they rectified the shitfest that was the last Sydney game and restored some pride in their supporter base.

He asked for something, he got it. Players must receive his messaging well, or at the very least, did in this instance.

Truck has a really potty mouth. I hope there were no ladies present.

I think he’s trying to get a young team to lead with their heads and not with their hearts

Pretty sure it’s still just the one win against a top 8 team (Swans), based on the current ladder.

Saints are 9th and Dogs may still leapfrog both sides by the end of the year anyway (largely depending on how they go this Fri night).

We still have games against Lions, Tigers & even the Pies to come though, so there’s an opportunity there to roll another likely finalist.

Agree with you though re the positive signs we’ve seen from the next wave of young talent. :+1:t2:

You expect a young side to have up and down weeks. The problem for our side is the downs have been unacceptably down.

You just have to learn to compete in a game for 120 odd minutes and put an end to 10 goal plus thumpings. Once that’s been achieved then I think it’s blue sky for this group.

Yet to see the new big alpha stars emerge but I think they will.

On the coaches to get them to the starting line. That is the minimum standard. We ain’t there yet despite a couple of good wins
