Sorry, I am not feeling it with Rutten.
His dreamy, hazy summer day communication style simply doesn’t inspire me whatsoever
I guess each to their own

Actually they tend to do on the back of a flag.
North will be releasing their much anticipated docuseries set around a five minute period of last week’s game against Geelong when their opponent was kept goalless. Archer, Carey, Kieth Greig and Phil Baker will feature in the special comments on the Director’s Cut
If it was one game pump up it would be rather ridiculous.
Pretty sure we are doing a doco for 150th year. Hasn’t been much positive footage to draw upon however.
You said it.
God I wish we’d kept Harding. Very clear, very good communicator, very little BS. Who’d we keep instead? Mark Harvey? Christ…
There is nothing wrong with his presser skills at all.
What exactly is the problem according to you?
He answers clearly and correctly.
What would you like him to do? Sing and dance as well?
I agree.
Unlike the best coaches over the years lacks inspiration in the way he speaks and what is said. And doesn’t seem the type to have that fear factor either which gets players on edge.
That in combo with apparently over complicating things game plan wise and we see many a flat performance. Rd1 was a disgrace as has been a lot of the seasons games.
And seemingly only when players have been smashed by media / responding to embarrassment have we seen them actually fire up. Shouldn’t have to have taken an opposition players taunts to get that happening. Or losing to the bottom team week before.
It was good to win of course & a pressure release. But Swans if were clinical could have put the game away in 3rd quarter. They had an off day in front of goal and it cost them.
Still a lot of doubt on Rutten IMO
I’ve seen this before….
When we play like this for the rest of the season I will allow myself some hope.
Just as likely to come out, like after the Saints game, and be Essington and drive a splintered wooden stake through our beating fan hearts.
I am cautious.
I was interested in one of Zerrett’s comments on AFL 360. He said that we’ve been winning the contested ball more in the last few months than in his previous 9 years at the club. That clearly means something to him, and maybe it’s something the team can build their game plan around.
Jack (Riewoldt) also commented that Premiership progression often isn’t linear, and Richmond moved from 13th to Premiers the following years, but they’d been building players and team skills for a few years beforehand. He was quite complimentary about the young talent Essendon has been building, including Mass, that we ‘stole’ from them. He would have said more, but the hosts got bored of the Essendon compliments and steered him to other topics.
What does any of this say about Rutten? I don’t know. I think it’s too early to tell what kind of coach he’ll become. In the past few years, several premiership coaches have had many years at a club, and there has been pressure to drop them right before they put it all together and won a premiership. I’d stick with him for awhile yet, unless there was an option so good we’d be silly to say no to, like Clarkson.
I just think Truck speaks like a backman.
When I saw that they’d made a video of his speech, I was expecting it to be, you know…. good. Seemed pretty dull to me. Maybe there was other game plan stuff in the speech that they couldn’t make public.
Sorry, that sheet does nothing for me.
I know coz it was being recorded that everyone was probably like “managing their behaviour”. But to me the whole pre and post message delivery was flat and uninteresting, and I could see very little engagement in the facial responses and body language of the team.
To me, all his messaging lacks the one key ingredient that you need to get people to lift above and beyond. INSPIRATION
There is nothing inspirational in the way he delivers his messaging. His use of voice control is monotone and boring and simply won’t engage.
How about:
The last time we played this bunch of wankers they made us look like a bunch of sissies.
Let’s get out there and rip them a new A Hole and teach them farkers something about who we are.
And let’s not stop there, let’s show the rest of competition that from this day forward we are going to wreak havoc and if we don’t win then at the very least you are gunna feel like you’ve been reamed with a pineapple.
And after the match …. The first words:
Fckn Aye …. Boys. That’s the new you, remember this feeling, remember every moment and bring that with you from this moment forward and we will become Invincible.
Real life is not a Hollywood drill sergeant screaming in your face.
Oh I have delivered that message in a work context in a very similar vain.
No one said anything about shouting, but I guarantee you there was plenty of inflection and enthusiasm in the voice.
Hey some of us are quite int…
Nah, you’re right.
He is very nervous.
repeats ‘you know’ many times.
struggles to find the words he is looking for.
speaks completely differently to the playing group.
I feel the difference is very obvious and am surprised if it’s not clear.
I also said his lack of presser skills is almost completely irrelevant so I find the sarcasm in your post a bit odd.
I’m sure you have.
Because it’s actually the easy option- that’s why it’s a Hollywood favourite.
Enabling real change in real life doesn’t work like that.
Feel good club propaganda after a rare win.
“SoMe pEOPLe oN heRE aRE nEVeR sATiSFiEd”
Next time show me the video after we win a Qualifying Final or better…
Yep, not allowed to enjoy wins. Remember that everyone.
Has nothing to do with supporters or fan base enjoying wins. I enjoyed Saturday and thousands of others did. No problem. But…
Club culture has reached a point where they need to commemorate H&A wins with Bomber Shop special emails, commemorative merchandise and what we are seeing there… a behind the scenes propaganda video.
I would prefer to see the Rutten video after losing to Sydney earlier in the year or even West Coast last week. I think we’d learn a lot more.
