I agree with this. Does anyone honestly give a fk that North Melbourne played in a prelim in 2015? This whole haven’t won a final since 2004 is irrelevant IMO. The more pressing fact is we haven’t looked like winning a flag since 2001.
And as I said 2009 Richmond were diabolical and ■■■■■■■■ on the club literally, it took to 2017 for a flag
Perhaps.
But the “7 thousand and whatever” days since winning a final thing is a great source of ammunition against the club.
We can pretend we don’t care but as soon as that monkey is gone we will suddenly acknowledge it as “gone” despite trying our hardest to pretend it doesn’t exist for quite a few years now.
We would be doing the same thing if we had a period of success and one of our rivals had a diabolical record…
Hardwick and Rutten are mates, how good would a Richmond Bombers GF AFL bonanza
Edit: forgot all the interstate clubs boo
As it stands it’s all innuendo until things firm. Clarksons record is incredible and his tactical nous is unmatched in the modern era really. The 2008 flag was born from tactics alone. He arrives in 2005 with what I’d consider a really poor list (worse than ours now imo) and wins a flag in 4 years. 14th (5 wins), 11th, 5th, Premiers! What stands out though is it being a whole club effort being on the same page. Strong and unrelenting leaders throughout and a list management strategy with all parts of the football side of things clearly on the same page. They brought in so many recruits, quite extraordinary his legacy when you pull it apart. Not sure our hierarchy has the balls to pull the levers like they did
The team Clarkson adopted (2004)…4 years later, flag!
I dont know why you respond to everything like someones made a personal attack on you. but i hope you’re doing ok in your personal life.
look, im pretty on the fence on it as it is. But i think if the club believes in what Ben is doing, and at face value, it feels like they do, i would consider trying something different and actually sticking with a coach long term. we havent had a bloke at the helm for an extended period of time since Sheeds… i would think our poor defensive effort has been due to our new zone defence strategy being poorly implemented. If it doesent improve next year, i have no doubt he will get the big boot of Brasher. And i just dont see “Clarko = Success” as much as others here.
I have to agree with you.
Rutten has been with us since 2019. With the goal of improving is defensively. Which hasn’t occurred.
Surely you’d see the credentials of Clarkson, and the fact that he continually tries to improve his ability, and want to take the chance.
If they’re so confident on Rutten, I’d love to see the evidence on our improvement and where it’s occurred.
Didnt realise Rutten has been coach for 18 years?
He hasn’t. But having responsibility on our defensive plan since 2019, you’d expect to see improvement by now.
IN Clarko, Buckley, Hodge, Betts
Not only have we shown that improvement isn’t linear …
We have demonstrated that diminishment is exponential
I think Clarko would bring Leon Cameron in as his 2IC straight away
I also still think all this noise has been fabricated from nothing
Meh
He is proven - with the team he had, against the teams that were.
There is no guarantee of anything.
Scully, Paton…
You really need to stop calling people names.
He would at Essendon

But having responsibility on our defensive plan since 2019, you’d expect to see improvement by now.
this is the kicker, that should be (i hope) a major focus in the “review”
why are we so bad defensively, after so long? this is the biggest black mark on rutten
you coukd regurgitate numerous articles from this pre season about being defensively minded, and none of it has happened at all
100% agree ……Clarkson is an incredible coach
