Given Stewart was injured round 3, I’m not sure we really had the opportunity to do so. I’d love to say Stewart forward was the difference between us and Geelong, Brisbane and Melbourne but I find it pretty unlikely. That being said, Wright got a hold of the Dees…
The one concern for the opposition planning for it is that we can plan against their plan and exploit that they are looking to exploit us.

I do like the fact that one on one you can take opposition’s strength away by negating their best players, just no top team plays the method which there must be a reason for.
That Rohan Connelly video on Twitter couldn’t sum up our situation better.

I honestly don’t know whether to be happy about our recent form.
We clearly look heaps better and the players are bought in after being a shambles before the bye, but we’ve simplified the game plan a number of times over the last few years and it’s led to the same result: good home and away results, terrible finals results.
Is this just short term gain for long term pain?

Have to review why we never get off to good starts in a season. Review the hardness of the draw the AFL give us as well.

Especially fond of the “10K less spectators than usual against Gold Coast” as some sort of clinching argument.
When the last time we played them in Melbourne was 2016, and the crowd was smaller than yesterday
And before that in the penultimate round of 2014 to clinch a Finals berth. When the crowd was indeed bigger.
Though it’s also accurate to say yesterday’s crowd was our fourth biggest of all time against them.

I truly believe something has or is happening that we aren’t aware of as yet officially.
You don’t just start to play footy again as a team ( most senior players ) just like that.
They are playing similar to last year again.
I have no doubt that this isn’t the case
Reiwoldt is just another ex player trying to sound smart. You can study a zone and pick it apart. One-on-one doesn’t require any studying. There’s nothing to study. You just have to be good enough to beat your man. In our case they haven’t been able to.
Yeah that was my least favourite part but he just wanted to have a swipe at our board to show how many fans are against them (and with him)

IMHO, I think it’s being able to start having some sort of consistency in areas that has helped us play a better game. It’s hard trying to gel when players were in and out of the team each week - i realise injuries played a huge part of this. Hopefully next year we will see a settled side each week that will reap the benefits.

Damien Barret calling them fake wins is harsh imo
essendon still had to play well to get these wins and its not like they were against poor teams sydney,brisbane,gold coast,saints all finals contenders who had a lot to play for

I like the analysis of King & Riewoldt, but how many games do they watch at the ground and how many are they stuck looking at a TV like us and therefore can’t see the whole ground setup?
King saying that we should blunt our flair whats wrong with him?
Essendon copped it all year for playing slow boring footy now that they we are playing a more attacking brand he doesnt like it

That slow boring footy nullified the opposition from scoring just over 60 points on average.
If we want to be a finals quality team, we need to keep the scores low and improve our contested game. I don’t care how boring we are, if it results in a premiership.
I’m done with ‘exciting’ football.
