I’m trying. You have no idea how many stupid regulations are now in place to protect our soft kids!
Care to share their figures from 2022?
Will do at seasons end. I’d be swapping ours for their lot in a heartbeat. We have Wright and Stringer capable of kicking 30 goals. They have Fritsch, Pickett, McDonald, Brown, Petracca and get 30 combined from their two rucks.
Peter Wright would like a retraction…Also Harry Jones is miffed.
I’m big wrap for Harry and wouldn’t swap him. Very excited by what he and Reid (up the other end, could become). Wright has been sensational for us. It’d be nice to pick a combo of theirs and ours and Wright would be one of the first picked. Group vs group, we have some catching up to do. We need a strong second target and a small forward who can kick 40.
The small forward is the issue, if we assume that Stringer can put together a full season (quite an assumption I know…). We had a beauty. We have missed Tippa enormously. I have no doubt about Harry, I think he’ll be a gun, and within the next 2 years. I also think Stewart can be a good target for another few years if he can stay on the park. What we do lack are midfield goals. Parish has gotten a few looks this year but struggles to kick over 40. If Shiel could get some confidence in kicking on the run he could really help. Tex and a Davey or two could be good, but not for a while
Fritsch 43, Pickett 31, McDonald/Brown 38, Spargo 8, Neal-Bullen 5.
Petracca 15, Jackson/Gawn 21
Purely for comparison, Wright 47, Stringer 24, Martin 18, Jones/Guelfi 13ea
Perko 13, Draper/Phillips 15
Yeah, we are missing that second big target and a very good small fwd.
They are soft because of the laws that have changed towards adults.
Being back the CANE
My daughter came to me about a teacher and how she was so mean etc …bullying her.
I met with her and she was like Mary Poppins. Kids get away with far too much
Yep, I agree with all of that. The midfield goals have definitely been an issue and that places greater reliance on our forwards to kick goals. At the moment we just don’t have variety/number in those capable of kicking 5 in a match or 30 plus for the year.
If we want to win finals I don’t think we do it with Stewart as a target and we need Harry to become a 40 goal a year fwd. A small that can kick multiple goals and hunt down tackle like Walla is vital. I’d say it’s Davey or trade in.
Why cant it be menzie
Or Wanganeen
Total goals messes with the numbers because of injuries etc, should use goals per game. Melbournes forward line isnt anything special, its their midfield and defence that makes them great and also makes their forward line look better then it is.

Why cant it be menzie
It’s raining menzie
Comparing our forwards goals to Melbournes. I chose players based on my own opinion of who plays predominantly forward in each teams best 22, leaning towards players who have a higher average goals per game. Thats why players like Waterman, Francis, Weideman, M. Brown and Melksham are not included (not in best 22) and why Petracca, Harmes and Gawn are not included (not predominantly forwards). Happy to discuss other combinations or best 7 to count the forward rotating off the bench etc but I think this is a pretty fair representation of each teams typical forward line with a bias towards goal kickers.
Essendon
Wright 2.5
Stringer 2
Jones 1.4
Perkins 0.9
Martin 1
Langford 1.1
Total 8.9
Melbourne
Fritsch 2.3
Pickett 1.7
Mcdonald 1.7
Brown 1.6
Jackson 0.6
Spargo 0.4
Total 8.3
I doubt either are good enough but that’s just my opinion and based on the very small sample size of each.
Adding McVeigh as an assistant to Ben would be an ideal move this offseason imo.
Yes, he is another “insider” but our coaching panel is lacking someone who is both passionate and willing to call guys out for their poor efforts. I think he would help focus the group, which is already pretty united, on achieving and maintaining success.
He’s been away from the club long enough as well. If he plays bad cop a bit, as Truck appears to be pretty bland and unemotional, it may work. You just want someone that is going to be an advocate for the senior coach, going to drive what he wants, because that appears to be serious gap. If Truck isn’t that forceful, domineering and demanding person, he needs a 2IC that is…
■■■■ I would love Fritsch at our club, of any player of any team, i’d take him, the amount of times, like the grand final, where he pops up and kicks a few to kick start Melbourne dominance is crazy, so athletic, skillfull, talented and intelligent, has no flaws in his game and excels at every part of forward craft.
He’s like the 2022 Gunston
