Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

I think Truck was acutely of the cameras homing in on the action

i would be genuinely terrified of goodwin as a player in his team, looks like he’d wreck a kernt

rutten, not so much

Rutten reminds me a bit of Goodwins early years at Melbourne

Hearing Goodwin speak on AFL 360 said that he strugled early in his career and reliased that he change by giving more responsibility to the other coaches and staff couldnt do everything him self

Rutten should follow Goodwins path in how to become a succesful coach imo

Goodwin is ā– ā– ā– ā–  stain
Absolute ā– ā– ā– ā–  stain

He’s very good friends with Xavier Campbell……both flogs

Why is Goodwin a ā– ā– ā– ā–  stain?

Yeah, he must be a truly terrible coach if he’s somehow retroactively responsible for the team’s performance in the 14 years that preceded his arrival at the club …

You think Demons will expose them Friday night and want redemption for their previous loss?

I don’t bet much but I’d have the line at 6 goals to the Dees. Bookies have it at 3. Far better team

Just the magic of a one piece Lycra body suit. Nothing to see here, move on.

In which case I don’t believe you

Fritsch, Picket, umm , that guy and ah, oh yeah him, Weideman.

I think it’s a big leap that what coaches present to (which is often what they choose to present) the media is all they are.

2021 - Fritsch 59, Pickett 40, McDonald/Brown 58, Spargo 18, Neal-Bullen 15

Petracca 29, Jackson/Gawn 32

I’ll take Dees, you can have ours.

I get these sentiments (as Im generation x and shared the same belief) until I started to find it challenging to connect with my 9 year old (I also coach u10 soccer) and after doing a fair bit of research and listening to experts on Ted talks…etc - It expanded my thinking, that we now live in a more complex world where the current generation is exposed to a huge amount of information (not all of them is accurate btw - but it is info which our generation was not exposed to - and for us whatever came from our parents/ teachers/coaches was accepted without question) their lives are far more complex than what we had and they’re under a very different type of pressure than what we went through in our time (the culture around them is dominated by social media and instant gratification which all plays a role in shaping their belief system)
A good coach is a person who needs to not only be a strong leader, but also a teacher who is open minded and accept change is a part of growth. Ideally, one hopes that Rutten is able to grow with the team and embrace the change together (thus gaining their trust, support and respect) to achieve the ultimate prize.
There are a lot more other things outside the talent and coaching that is problematic at our club - hopefully, they are honest with themselves in terms of their review and dont sweep it under the carpet and carry on embracing the mediocrity that has dominated this once great club.

I know I’m set in my own ways and I am unwilling to change, so what’s easiest for me is to abuse the younger generation for being soft, which I still believe to be true. I also have 9 and 12 year old’s and I can’t get over how soft they are.

I’m sure my dad thought the same thing about me and my generation. I guess as life gets easier, we get softer.
