Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

No. Read my post.

Mark Neeld is looking a better option than Rutten at this stage.

I think we should be aiming for Hodge as our backline coach

I think he would not only bring smarts but also demand toughness from our group.

I would let Caracella take over for remaining games and terminate Rutten as do a proper process for a coach with the new CEO.

We could revive norm smith but unless we recruit better and improve our list, we’re setting any coach up for failure

Another good draft pick we have a bunch of good kids coming through but they need the right coach to learn from and grow

I think, though, that we need a new stronger coach, with a new recruitment setup, who can then create a list who will play around a solid game plan. I know it will be another 5 years, but we need to rebuild, and as others have said, rebuild the lot. Tear the place down and rebuild it from ground up (or top down however you want to phrase it).

We are not going anywhere with this current full list (selected players yes, not the full list), this coaching group, this recruitment group, this club hierarchy.

Me too.

First thing he’ll do is put every player on notice you don’t want to defend then you wont play

He would then flog players at traning until they puke

They just backed Rutten and said there will be no external review. They won’t be sacking him any time soon.

It will only happen if these smackings continue for a couple more months.

We need a board challenge for anything of any real substance to happen.

All this talk of coaches making our team tougher is BS. We need tough players. You really think the coaches asked for 30 tackles?

Worth repeating.

What can we do to help influence this.

We’re bleeding but can you imagine how the 93 & 2000 listed players are feeling.

That’s because they never had a coach who was tough

Hodge is living the good life in QLD and making money on radio and TV.

He won’t be coming back to Melbourne to start working a stressful job, with waaay more hours and waaay less money.

Yes, please, bring it on. Thrashed next week by Tigers in the Dreamtime game, trashed by Fark Carlton in the 150th anniversary game. Then perhaps the icing on the cake will be being convincingly beaten by West Coast. Oh yeah baby, let’s go!

This would be the final nail in the coffin.
If Ross ever coaches my club, I’m out!!

Only stop attending and giving the club any money i guess. Unless you know some rich and powerful smart operators that will challenge the board.

It’s frustrating.

Rich, powerful is exactly what we don’t need. Just good governance and leadership.

If you don’t have power, you arent even mounting a realistic challenge.

Yep my little interest will completely dissipate.

I hope the game plan clicks for the teams soon, or it will be like 3-19 at the end of the year. They are very low in confidence, which is a hard thing to regain.

In a way, I do hope they finish like 17th or so, so it can trigger a full review of the football department. I think Rutten is a good bloke, but not sure if he has the hard edge needed to coach a football club. Still it is only his 2nd year, and am prepared to give him time.

However, i am not prepared for the club to keep gaslighting the fans,. Tell it how it is, to both us and the players. IMHO, there are way too many protected species at the club, who, as professional footballers need to be told exactly where they are going wrong, and to tow the line. Player empowerment only goes so far. it works for some, but others need a good kick up the ā– ā– ā– . If the list isn’t good enough, the at the end of the year, clean it out. No use flogging a dead horse.
