Ben Rutten - sacked

We need 2 more years of bottom 5 picks with a better recruiting team and list manager.

People need to understand the practicalities of the coaching decision. It’s bounded by time constraints. They couldn’t have kept him any longer (should have done it weeks ago). Although i think the port and gws losses were the catalysts needed for change.

So, we had a plan, it’s was failing but backed by brasher. He held firm for stability. The internal review was clearly rubbish and took forever, only arrived a couple of weeks ago. Between that and the losses Barham and co finally had enough to start change.

It’s going to take 6 weeks to conduct the review another two weeks to digest. 2-4 for a long term execution strategy so you’re talking December at best. We can’t operate without a coach for that long. 2023 planning starts now from a football perspective.

So the coach search has to start immediately with the selection of the candidate probably to align with the release of preliminary review findings at about 4 weeks into the process.

While candidates come to Blitz at election time, I doubt that Blitzers with voting rights could determine an election. It’s not like the process for Senate elections, or indeed preferential system.
Past players with lots of networks are equivalent to being given a fifty close to the goal square.

Blitz was 100% a factor in getting Lio and Cousins on the board. Not necessarily the only factor - i don’t know whether they also campaigned on bigfooty or among the coteries or whatever - but it certainly was one factor. As was conclusively proven the next year or two when every candidate (including Brasher) made an account here and gave decisive and rousing but meaningless and evasive answers to direct questions, in the name of raising their profile.

Sure, even a blitz-backed candidate that absolutely everyone on here supports (SMJ for Prez OMG!!!) is going to get steamrolled by a past premiership player etc. But in a regular year, the blitz consensus vote is a signficant, but not deciding, factor.

Feel bad for rutten, did not deserve to be treated the way he was.
That being said I think the correct decision has been made.
Treat this review as if we were starting the club from scratch.
Put the right people in place from the receptionist to the president.

We’re a long way off it in many respects if that game last night represented a huge effort from the footy department.

people get on with like 400 votes

The Cousins/Lio/Gauci election saw ~5000 votes each, from memory.

Some never bother to vote, some get energised to vote when they are appalled at the club.
In some years a sole candidate, no voting, others appointed.
So, a bit hard to compare voter turnout.Maybe we should have compulsory, force members out of their apathy, would make the Board more accountable . ( Just a fantasy scenario)

Apparently all the Essendon players are heading over to Rutten’s home to console him (Mitch Cleary)

Ya think they would play properly. Perhaps then he could have stayed.

I thought it was Paul Cousins

Vote for me Blitz. I’ll bring the cannon.

That’s good they genuinely liked him.

Having said that they didn’t play for him and partly to blame for his downfall.
