Ben Rutten - sacked

Yup. They could not care less.

He wouldn’t.

And imagine how scared shitless everybody at the club would be if they ever dared to treat him in a similar way to what Rutten has over the past week.

Imagine passing him in a dark corridor in the Hangar? Even after a loss?

He is the fear factor we need.

The best teachers and role models in life, from my own experience, always need that fear factor. Smart, fair, caring … but don’t cross them or let them down. We need that more than the “It’s OK. I know you’ll try harder next time”.

Exodus? Big who cares, these are the only players it would hurt if they left;

Perkins, Reid, Cox, Hobbs, Jones, Bryan and Draper.

Honestly that’s it, because you can build around top end elite talent.

The rest have had exposure and enough games that we find ourselves where we do. And classic EFC, we over rate those type players.

Looking back on it, there were a few instances with Rutten that could have been red flags

  • 2019 - atrocious start. Confusing game plan. Rutten tries to implement defensive plan. Doesn’t work. Thrown out. We get a roll of wins. Make finals. Then get pumped. Rumours of player confusion on communication within the coaching team.

  • 2020 - handover with Woosha. Senior players not happy with Rutten (reportedly). Going to Woosha for support instead of Rutten. Rutten largely responsible for on field game plan and game day. Horrible season. ■■■■■■ senior players off by refusing TBC farewell game. Reportedly Saad is unhappy with the role planned for him in 2021 etc.

  • 2021 - Rutten focuses on connecting with history. Works well. Still some defensive concerns but we are putting away teams - a number of large winning margins. Winning games we need to. Still not beating top 8 teams. Game plan still doesn’t stand up in finals.

  • 2022 - players return from preseason early. Return to previous efforts to implement defensive game plan. Doesn’t work. Players look unprepared round 1. Coast to coast goals become regular occurrences. Players can’t understand why their “tough training standards” aren’t translating to on field performances. Coach can’t either. Get a few wins by making a few tweaks. But largely, game plan is ■■■■. Players are underperforming. Player injuries are frequent and reoccurring.

2021 was a highlight out of his time with the club. So keen to find out what the ■■■■ happened over the off-season.

only if you ignore that fact that 2021 was also Trucks system

The defensive setup changed this season compared to 2021. Ridley was playing on smalls most of 2021

I dunno, if someone said to me:

“Boys, I’ve just been paid $600k to stay home next year. The beers and FourNtwenties are on me”.

I’d get along.

If there is a player exodus can I kindly request the following join in

Heppell, Parish, McGrath, Stringer, Stewart, Ham

id say it was the same just that the role on smalls went to kelly.

Stringer reportedly not a fan of Rutten. Think he’ll be comfortable right now.

Parish I can imagine requesting a trade.

Not surprised by Jobe. I think there’s still a lot of tension between him and Hird

Yeah nah.

None of those guys are close to being top end elite talent.

Not really surprising. The players went to the club and asked for a guarantee that what they were taking was WADA approved. Hird was the bloke in charge when they were given that guarantee

Does anybody know how long the board meeting went for?

Barham said it was 3 hours

Sorry, it was a bad joke because he mentioned it around 15 times.

We can replicate the announcement of Matthew Knights on Grand Final eve again.

That was a treat. And fantastic way to avoid scrutiny.
