Ben Rutten - sacked

It was Hind. Surprise, surprise.

Wait.

Are people saying it’s not appropriate for the players to go over to Trucks house?

Would’ve thought it’s the least they could do.

dunno how you can go to someones house when your direct performance resulted in their sacking

This would be my line in the sand. I’d be out, after after 57 years of supporting the Dons,. How could anyone think that was a way to treat people.

like our squibs would do that.

I dont buy the excuses Truck profered during the postmatch The way I saw it the last game was
just like the previous 2. Whatever caused the players to drop their bundle happened 3 weeks ago

Nah.

I think the football world is very different.

As far as I know, it wasn’t a player lead revolt like we’ve seen at other clubs. Sure, they didn’t deliver, and some might’ve been sooks, but you move on from that. Support he guy.

Share a beer a bit of a D&M, and then everyone moves on. He seemed like a nice guy, you’d like to think going around to check on him would be ok.

No, I don’t think so.

The discussion is whether anything should be read in to it.

Nah it was Draper and Hind

I’m not saying its inappropriate… I was more suggesting that it highlights that perhaps Rutten was trying to be a ā€˜friend’ to the players more than a ā€˜coach’…

I’m an employer of a small team (around 20)… now I like to think I’m an ok boss and I know a lot about my employees but they don’t know a lot about me. One of the keys to surviving in business is to always remember that no matter how friendly… employees are never going to be your friends and you need to be able to stay objective so that if you need to make the tough call you can.

I believe Rutten tried too hard to be a nice guy… rather than let this group know that he was in charge.

So I don’t think there is anything wrong with them going around to his house… but I do find it interesting.

Yeah fair enough.

You’d want to be close to the assistant coaches, but the players need to know you’re the boss.

100%… and that isn’t to say you can’t have the ā€˜love’ of your players… I mean heck the great coaches all had playing lists that would run through brick walls for them…

but ultimately you can’t be mates with the players… that is how, potentially, you end up with situations like not being able to drop Shiel for 12 rounds despite him being appalling… or the decision to keep Heppell as captain when he was clearly struggling on field… and several others.

What I do also find VERY interesting… is that we have a highly credentialed team of assistants… but I’ve heard very little out of them this week. I remember when Hird resigned… and all the players were in the room… half in tears… and the assistants… the anger was almost palpable on their faces. Bomba had to be dragged into the coaching seat. Dare I say it… that is loyalty. Guys like Goddard were livid they hadn’t performed well enough on field… so much so that Goddard still publicly comments that he let Hird down…

Anyway that is off topic… but I’ve seen crocodile tears for Truck imho… nice bloke but I don’t think there are many players that feel that the best coach in the AFL just walked out the door.

I also think Don Pyke and Buckley are the best coaches available in the market. I would like for Coaching panel to decide rather than panel stamping board decision.
We have a golden opportunity to steer the ship right now. If the club goes back to rotten decision making process we will be another 22 years before a final win.

Buckley is Premiership poison. He’ll never win one. If he was to release an after shave itd be called Flag Repellent.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Ridley returns to his 2021 form next season.

He never looked like he fully believed in Ruttens system.
