You don’t get Clarkson by running a process. You simply sound him out, gauge his interest in the role, and what you need to get him across in terms of remuneration and other things such as his support staff, etc. If we miss on him, yes go through a thorough process and canvass all candidates and select the best person for the job. But you wouldn’t get Clarko to submit to that.

I wonder if ‘getting Clarkson’ is being used as a way to get rid of Rutten, to only then be replaced by a different coach altogether who may not be as warmly received if it was known he was the reason they are getting rid of Rutten in the first place

There’s no doubt there’s elements inside the club that hope sacking Rutten to get Clarkson then missing out on Clarkson means there’s a vacancy and it will need to be filled by someone……

Yeah, it does feel like there are parts of the club who are pushing for Hird.

I don’t think that can be ruled out…… although it is only a small chance.

My own view and I might be in the minority here, is we should run a proper coaching appointment process for once. If Clarkson is the guy, so be it but I think best practice is to survey all options.

A proper process like 4 Premierships on your CV

Come on, we’re never going to appoint an untried assistant coach no matter their credentials. So that leaves you with experienced former coaches. Realistically that is Clarkson, Chocco, RTB.

Think it was on AFL 360 last night, but they mentioned that the 3 remaining candidates at GWS had all been through a ‘process’, but dealings with Clacko were different he wasn’t put to the same procedure. His was probably more like “will you do it, what do you need and how much”

IMO The GWS coaching situation has turned alot off people the wrong way, watching McVeigh, Hird & Solomon coach another club.

The push for Hird, with McVeigh and Solomon as assistant coaches…. Would be on the cards if Clarkson falls through imo

If this is how we process things as important as appointing a coach we’re in worse shape than I thought we were. And that seems impossible.
