Best horror scenes/moments in Movies

When the protagonist is calling the police in When a Stranger Calls...hiding in the closet.

hiding in the closet.

Knew it. That gruff exterior's just compensation!

The only time I reckon I have been genuinely scared/thought about a scene for WAY too long was the final scene of The Blair Witch Project.  I spent an hour and a half hating myself for being in the cinema and wasting my money, then the last scene of old matey facing the wall in the corner gave me chills.

Then I thought about it for weeks, and weeks and weeks and weeks.  But only ever as I was going to sleep at night.

I saw it on a date with a girl... She turned and whispered to me "What's he doing? Is he taking a ■■■■?"

We went out for about 12 months. I've never denied being shallow.

I can still remember as a kid being scared by the library scene in ghostbusters. :o

Paranormal Activity kept me awake the night I saw it, I find the psychological freaks me out more than the blood and guts stuff.

I can't watch Horror movies, have seen 4 ever.

Really like horror games though. Resident Evil 4 was one of my best experiences doing anything ever. Condemned 2, whilst not as good of a game, was really scary.

Classic

That legitimately looks like something out of a nightmare. Good job to whoever made that scene.

I've seen most of Dario Agento's work, Suspiria is probably his best though. The way the movie is filmed in technicolor gives it a surreal atmosphere.

Might give it a watch when ive got the time

Remember seeing this when it came out. As far as horror goes it left The Exorcist for dead. But it may have also been the fact that I went to see The Exorcist very stoned and laughed through the entire thing, much to the chagrin of those around me in the cinema.

The Orphanage as a whole was excellent and that knocking scene is a great example of psychological horror. Due to the prior tension and build-up to that scene, the director doesn't need to do much as your brain is already ahead of the scene imagining the possibilities.

The Conjouring and Insidious are easily the two scariest recent films that i've seen.

Anyone got any other good, recent horror movies?

Hostel was disturbing. The scene with the Japanese backpacker was a bit much for me. I actually had to walk out of the cinema.

You must have known before you walked in thats what you were up for though?

I dont get scared by the gore and gross out stuff.  It's the paranormal/weird/unexplained/dont see anything that gets me.  If there's a monster that you make up in your head cos they show nothing on screen, then THATS scary.

Hostel actually made me feel sick and not scared. The torture scenes were that full on.

Regarding the supernatural/ weird/ unexplained stuff, I reckon Hideo Nakata does it pretty well.

yeah i really cant stomach movies like Hostel. I find the violence too confronting and feel sick too, not scared..

No matter how hard i try I cant even get remotely scared from movies like Paranormal Activity.

saw a film the other day on DVD called Deliverence. Head it was a classic and hired it. Saw it was rated R but didn't really take much notice. There was one scene that just creeped me out beyond belief.

The gooey eye scene from Hostel

The rape/murder seen in the remake of the Hills Have Eyes

Funny Games - just a really messed up film

The Devils, OTT production by Ken Russell. The opening scene shows maggotts crawling out of the eye sockets of a corpse tied to wagon wheel on a pole. Things rapidly go down hill from there and don't get any better. Not a horror movie as such, but a few scenes made me almost physically sick.

The scene in Hannibal where Hannibal Lecter hangs and disembowels the Italian policeman who tries to arrest him is pretty compelling.

Yeah that was a bit full on.

The Evil Dead series is a personal fave of mine.

Throws in a bit of humour in with a bit of gore.

I actually prefer Evil Dead 2 to the first which is rare.
