Best Restaurants in Melbourne

While I have everyone’s attention.

I have some Canadian friends staying at Crown I’d like to take to dinner or breakfast.

Any great Melbourne places nearby you can recommend?

Grain Store on Flinders Lane is pretty good for breakfast.

Crown. What do you want to spend? What do they like? I’m not a fan of the sort of things they have there, but some people love that stuff…

Moonee Ponds pizza - even though it is owned by a fanatical Tiger.

They love Japanese, but Nobu might be too exxy. Was hoping for something a little unique, or ver y Melbourne esque.

They’re pretty well travelled so wouldn’t want to go to a tourist trap type place

Surely there’s a caravan parked at the end of a laneway that serves Michelin starred japanese that you can eat while sitting on milk crates?

1800 Lasagne in Thornbury! Best Italian food I have ever eaten ( I am Southern Italian). Just do yourself a favour and indulge in this gastronomic treasure.

Oh yeah. How good is the lettuce side dish?!

Every single dish was unbelievably good. We ordered the antipast, meat/eggplant lasagne, malfade and ricott/balsamic. I cannot fault anything; it was a symphony of flavours with everything in balance. The tomato sauce was rich, and you could really taste the natural sweetness, hand in hand with the herbs and garlic.

I am glad i don’t live in the area because I’d be there every other day.

Aru in little collins st. Australian bent to the food. Some ‘wow’ dishes. The rice flour bread with smoked butter is worth it on its own.

If they are foodies then this place should do the trip. Plenty of Aus ingredients as well to make it different from overseas 3 hatters

I didn’t try the gnocchi but I will on my next visit. My goal is to try every item on the menu.

If you want a special place for a special occasion, l recommend The Willows on St. Kilda Rd. Just a look at the facade and you can see it is something memorable, the ambience inside adds to the sense of it being special.

I’m going to put in a plug for Chris’s Beacon Point, at Skene’s Creek near Apollo Bay. It’s been going for well over 30 years. It was burnt down in a bad bushfire year at least 10 years ago, but Chris still runs it and he rebuilt it, and it’s now the most fabulous building with an unbeatable view in every direction. The menu is not extensive and neither is the wine list, but the quality of the cooking and the wines is outstanding. It’s not cheap but for what it is I do not regard it as expensive. Friendly and very efficient staff, and the relaxed atmosphere in the dining room is an absolute pleasure. They also have accommodation if you don’t want to restrict what you drink. My favourite restaurant, actually.
