Best Restaurants in Melbourne

My wife and I love Paris Go.
In fact we had our wedding reception dinner there years ago.

You’re the only person I know of who mentions Paris Go as a favourite. I love France Soir, but I’ve only been to Paris Go once because nobody I know seems to want to go there. The time I went I thought it was pretty good. I don’t know why it’s like that.

If you’re in the area, Scopri (Italian, not French) is outstanding – their sourdough bread is as good as it gets.

I agree with what you say about chefs generally. Aided and abetted by food writers in the Age Good Food etc. And I won’t voluntarily go to a restaurant that offers only a degustation menu.

If I go to a restaurant I want to enjoy myself. I couldn’t care less whether the chef enjoys himself. That means I want to choose what I eat, and I want to have a pretty good idea what it is before I order it.

We have been there and it is fantastic. A close friend lives in Woodend and she goes every week. We were amazed that such a high standard place is in Woodend, and it has a nice feel about it as well.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a restaurant in Melbourne that is good, but…how shall I put this…caters for a palette that isn’t exactly adventurous?

So when you say Melbourne, are you talking about all suburbs of Melbourne?

Is there a preference for area?

I always reckon San Telmo is pretty approachable and safe.

All else fails they can basically order steak and vegetables.

But there’s things on the menu for others with a broader interest.

Cumulus Inc is our go to in the CBD.

It’s not out there at all. Just great food.

always top shelf, and a nice place for a nice occasion.

Bistro Guillame at Crown is a great French Bistro. Amazing roast chicken, steak and frittes etc…has a few more adventurous dishes like classic steak tartare and duck confit etc…but their classics like the steak and chicken is sublime. You will pay for it though. Oh and it’s the best French onion soup you’ll ever have.

I love Italian food.

For an occasional visitor to Melbourne where are some good suburban Italian gems?

Not fancy white tablecloth spots. I’m talking great neighbourhood Italian joints.

Fresh pasta, proper pizza, cheap honest house wine etc.

Happy to travel.

I quite liked Grazia in Malvern and Pepe’s in the city.
Would have liked to try a lot more dishes at Pepe’s.

Florentino Grill is pretty good and has plenty of basics. And they make the best tiramisu in Melbourne.

Thanks, guys.
Love the suggestions.

In my neck of the woods, people go crazy for 1800Lasagne. Jamie Oliver even ate there. It is good, though Mrs THT has banned us from eating there.

Apparently someone in the mums group heard from someone else that they don’t pay their staff properly.

Better not eat out ever again then, just in case.

Cumulus I believe is run by Andrew McConnell. He has a pub in Fitzroy called the builders arms hotel. That place is unreal
