Best Restaurants in Melbourne

I guess it depends on how adventurous you are, mate. I’m a knuckle dragging dickhe@d that grew up on a farm near a small coal mining town but I can absolutely behind the following:

East Malvern. Tandoori Cottage - Indian.
No liquor licence and the decor is in desperate need of an update but who cares about that if they serve Melbourne’s best butter chicken. Korma is great too. Cheese and garlic naan bread for dipping.

Glen Waverley. Spicy Wicket - Sri Lankan.
Plenty of cricket stuff to be seen. Get a hopper (savoury pankcake) and load it up with the cashew curry and a meat curry. All in one, eat with your hands and down the hatch. You’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven. Wash it down with a Lion Lager.

Malvern East. Theio Theo - Greek. What kind of maniac doesn’t love sharing a huge meat platter with friends? Used to live in Oakleigh. Tried plenty of Greek places. This is the one I recommend.

I can’t honestly put this in ‘Best Restaurants’…
But…That Greek Tavern…
Honestly the food is a bit hit and miss.
But it’s family. I mean…both family run and a great place to take the family. Even the kids will love the food.
Super reasonably priced, so you can just go nuts and share.
Preferably with some ouzo, which I never drink but there it’s just…right.

I really like that place a lot.
It’s not cuisine, it’s just…good. Even when it’s not.

Yep, used to go to that one too when I was on that hood. I’d go back if it were closer

I used to go to Tandoori Cottage when I lived in Carnegie, then Ormond.

Then realised how good Bombay By Night in North Road., just up from Bambra Rd, was.

I drive past that restaurant several times a week during summer, on my way to/from windsurfing. I’ve always wondered if it’s any good.

For the lucky ones that have been to Brae, is it worth it?

Mrs. K. and myself have managed to score a night away next week and pondered Brae. But with dinner, matching wines and accom, it was going to be $2k.

We thought we better save that for a special occasion. :grimacing:

So we’re off to Melbs. Any lunch suggestions around Southbank/CBD? Spice Temple is leading the race at this stage. We’ve never had a bad meal there.

I have been and it’s no doubt amazing, but insanely expensive. Great experience though. What made it even better is I wasn’t paying.

But it’s a big jump in price from a meal that’s amazing in its own right somewhere to an experience thats next level at Brae.

Worth it? Well that depends on how highly you value experiences like that. The food on its own, probably not. But yeah it’s an experience that you’re paying for.

But again, wasn’t my shout.

I do like the idea of not having to pay for it myself.

The bloke who owns Arbory (me) is a passionate Bombers supporter. My 1 st game was in 1976 with my grandma at Windy Hill.

If we win a premiership ill shout the bar. Sadly thats a hollow offer with the ■■■■ our club continues to dish up….

I like it there. It never ceases to amaze me where bars and restaurants can get squeezed into.

L’Hotel Gitan - commercial Rd

Best meal I’ve had out for ages. Wish there was a place like this closer to Northcote.

Oh yeah, Jaques Raymond and his family. Can’t go wrong

Count me down for some celebrations if that ever comes around. I’ve enjoyed drinks & eats at your restaurant plenty of times & always had a great experience. Best of luck, I know the industry is tough going atm.

Does Red Spice Road still exist?

Grazia in Glen Iris is pretty amazing for a non inner city restaurant

Sure does. Walked past yesterday on my way to Rice, Paper, Scissors. Which was fantastic btw.
