Can’t wait for the afl to come and tick off one of the bad decisions and forget the rest even happened. That 3rd quarter was concerted effort by the umps. That doesn’t happen by mere incompetence.
It’s a lovely morning.
I’m still angry.
This sport they have farked in order to make it more entertaining… it isn’t working.
I hope the agencies that are looking at corrupt gambling in sport are checking the vidoes this morning
We have increased the number of umpires by 25 percent, and increased the “incompetence” by infinitely more. Because you’ve simply added an additional dose of “no idea” into an already toxic mix of “no idea”.
I’m struggling to bother following this sport any more.
Yeah. I reckon you are spot on. Has himself to blame for it.
I they must be getting back at Menzie to how else do you explain that shocking decision ?
Despite the atrocious umpiring, the players let all the Essendon fans down by dropping the lip and obviously giving up. That shows signs of immaturity.
I agree, I actually was looking forward to seeing how we responded in the last quarter. It was really disappointing.
I’m not sure I follow the sport any more. I just follow Essendon.
I literally don’t consume any AFL media, or watch anything outside of Essendon these days. Really never returned to consuming AFL media from the saga due to not wanting to push myself over the edge. And nothing since then has convinced me that there is any reason to fully invest.
I was somewhat invested in the result this week, but the AFL makes it impossible
When you have a combination of balanced seasoned posters like @saladin feeling this way, with neutral supporters and footy media personalities saying we were ferociously robbed, it helps to vindicated the feelings of us highly emotive supporters/members who still haven’t come down from the final quarter of the 2019 Anzac Day game, nor the Corey Bulldogs EF tassie show in 2021.
It happens in patches per quarter on the regular. typically 2-3 momentum killers, but last night was on an unprecedented level. It was an entire quarter from multiple umps. As if there were a discussion at half time and it was premeditated.
As Kurt famously said in 1991 “just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean their not after you!”.
The umpiring mistakes that results in the opposition scoring multiple goals were amongst the worst I have seen in many years. However, there was still a full quarter of football to play but the team just throw in the towel. Good teams don’t give up under any circumstances, win or lose. That was for me the most disappointing thing that happened with our game.
yep umpires gifted them three to four goals.
we still could have fought hard to keep the margin at that level.
Ranked the decisions in order of how bad they were:
-
Stewart non-holding the ball. Took 2 players on and then clearly threw it.
-
Menzie rushed behind. If that’s meant to be paid then they have missed about 4,000 free kicks this year. Remember the rule was brought in the avoid Joel Bowden incidents… nothing close to what jye did.
-
Draper non-arm chop. Okay yes umpire is going to try and say not front on contact coz his eyes are on the ball but even still you can’t arm chop just because his eyes are on the ball.
-
Bowes non-holding the ball. Took the player on and dropped it. Umps may try and say it came out in the tackle and it wasn’t like it was a clean stripping. 999 times out of 1000 even if the ball is knocked out when you’ve had prior it’s holding the ball.
Then there were a lot a of other minor calls that didn’t go our way. None as bad as the above.
100%.
Shows how mentally weak we still are.
And let’s not kid ourselves, Draper is probably a 20% chance of kicking that goal in the wet
A better team doesn’t get drawn down by that level of poor umpiring, sure.
But we aren’t that good yet. If the boot had been on the other foot and we benefited from it, I suspect Geelong would have dropped their bundle too.
Sydney, FARK CARLTON, Collingwood and Brisbane. They are the only four teams who probably don’t drop their bundle.
I disagree. No team in the 40 years I have watched VFL/AFL/VFA & local footy have ever been dealt the hand we were in the 3rd.
Even the greatest teams lose games due to momentum swings that they can’t get back on their terms.
An “honourable loss” wouldn’t have made any difference to the outcome. We were robbed and there must be an investigation
Putting this here too.
Slept on it.
Still ■■■■■■■ furious, never have I seen a course of game changed like it did in the 3rd qtr last night.
After that, i don’t blame our players for dropping thier bundle.
Throw in a couple of non 50m penalties one which would’ve allowed a shot at goal.
Lucky I was there with my teenage daughter. I kept it pretty level headed, for her sake, but there were people around me losing their collective ■■■■.
