this was just in front me at the game. after the decision I thought there would be a small riot
It was a little hard to tell from the TV but did the umpire initially award the free kick to Devon Smith but then reverse it when the Pies player had a sook and said it was a dangerous tackle?
Cox’■■■■■ on Heppell was disgraceful. I went to the game with a St Kilda supporter and they were in disbelief when there wasn’t a free awarded to Heps.
There was a definite pause because the umpire wasn’t sure how he could avoid giving us a free kick. He was probably hoping the ball would come free so he could call play on but when Cripps had a sook it gave him the out he was looking for. The one earlier when it was paid in the back against Heppel was similar, there was a defined pause as everyone waited for the umpire to rightfully award us a holding the ball free kick. Instead the pause was used to wait until the player being tackled to the ground knocked Hep over & again gave the umps an out.
So Pendlebury has the nerve to complain about the umpiring on the weekend? Is he for real?
No reversal at the ground.
Couldn’t watch the game yesterday but watched the replay today. After all the uproar I thought I’d be ropable with the umpiring, but TBH I’ve seen worse. Maybe I’m becoming conditioned, or caring less about the game.
I noticed McKenna got held after disposing of the ball and looking for the one two in 2Q I think. Only difference between that and the Goddard free was that he wasn’t on the ground. Funny the commentators didn’t see the comparison. But then, they never do.
There’s no doubt Essendon is umpired differently to other teams and we never seem to get the 50/50s but that didn’t lose us the game yesterday. We were good enough to win it but too reactive rather than proactive IMO.
Absolutely agree with this, but gee it must take the wind out of your sails when you’re regularly screwed by the umpires. Lucky I don’t play footy. Seriously, I’m the biggest pacifist on the planet, but I would deck someone.
It’s the equivalent of West Coast supporters complaining about 1 poor decision that went against them, when they get the greatest run of umpiring we’ve ever seen.
It’s a perfect opportunity to play the victim card, so nothing changes. Then the AFL can say ‘see! everyone thinks they’re hard done-by.’
As if, Pendlebury wants that run of umpiring decisions we seen yesterday to change!
I fully expect us to get a good run from the umpires this weekend but only once we have the game in hand just to prove that any criticism of umpires is entirely baseless.
They used to do that in the 80’s.
Free kicks to half time 5-20 or something and Essendon up by 40 points so the second half they evened up by paying free kicks instead of marks etc so frees ended up about even.
I honestly don’t know how these testosterone fueled men don’t lash out when they are so clearly getting reamed by the umpires. I’m the furthest from a hot head or a ‘white-line’ kind of guy, but when umpires are so clearly calling a game so one-sided it makes my blood-boil, some would say I privately seeth. I’m pretty sure I would have had a few weeks off after Sunday if I was playing.
Why? They don’t have to be accountable to anyone. If yoy think the umpires were biased in that game, have a listen to the commentators. While there is no serious questioning of the way they go about their business, the AFL couldn’t give a …
Well according to Tom Browne we’ve finally complained to the AFL about it.
That’s massive. Woosha and Dan Richardson have written a letter to the AFL apparently. I’m shocked!
“Dear AFL, our fans weren’t happy, this is a formal complaint about something”
Too little, too late. They’ve already ended our finals run.
That wouldn’t be the Hird mentality,
