Blatant cheating by umpires - “having a ‘mare tonight” (Part 1)

Ridiculous that rules of the games are decided by “wagering partners.”

I thought with the Smith moving on the mark one - he was complaining because he had never actually got on the mark.m, and so shouldn’t have needed to ‘stand’.

I think there were some dodgy calls and I reckon they generally favour home teams, but I would never believe a an AFL conspiracy. More to do with Asch Conformity (look it up), and plain human error. As noted, sometimes we do well but we never complain then.

It’s obviously a ridiculous call when you look at the video but I don’t think it can or should be ‘appealed’.

The umpire said he played on. That’s it.

Now he obviously didn’t play on, but that was the umpires call on the day so it stands IMO, no matter how objectively ridiculous it was

I think the argument is that the umpire overruled both the other field and goal umpire.

Yeah but in the end the decision got made, and it’s not a totally objective decision (like did it hit the post or not)

I vaguely remember a kerfuffle over a goal kicked after the siren being annulled after the game due to incontrovertible evidence to that effect. Thought it was AFL, actually.

St Kilda/Freo in Tassie. Siren wasn’t loud enough.

Two things stuck out at me.

Inconsistency amongst umpires Thursday on Deliberate OOB. Where I think we were stung at least 4 or 5 times more than the swans. This hurt us more.

The interpretation of holding the ball/incorrect disposal in a tackle still doesn’t sit well with me. I don’t get why you don’t get pinged for dropping it. This was routinely bad against both sides.

Otherwise I think we lagged in the free kick count cos we had less of the pill.

Mind you I am old.

Any young blitzers playing at the moment get it?

All teams supporters think their club is screwed over.

I don’t agree umpires should do it either but I suspect they do.

Probably no more MCG if it was Essendon being shafted…

This is a point I have been meaning to bring up. If the player stands 1 meter behind the mark obviously officially declaring he is not on the mark, then shouldn’t that player be allowed to move laterally as he pleases without any repercussions?
I don’t think there are any rules compelling a player to be on the mark.
It may be a loophole which if can be used surely the AFL will change the rules again and compel a player to be on the mark or deem the closest player to be the player on the mark. ???

They essentially already have. If the umpire calls out “Stand,” the player is deemed to be on the mark and can’t move, even if when “stand” was called the player was meters behind the mark.

I’ve also noticed players jumping or moving laterally before the umpire calls stand…in another example a player was asked to step back a metre and stepped sideways and backwards by a metre…obviously in an attempt to better cover the inside/corridor kick. I’d suggest our players follow suit here!

As players from either side aren’t allowed within 5 m of the mark, my wild guess is that if you go within 5 m and stop the ump will call ‘stand’ and reckon they are justified. But that’s a guess.
