Blatant cheating by umpires - “having a ‘mare tonight” (Part 1)

I think the AFL is trialling a new method of signalling free kicks and Essendon is the test subject. I've noticed that the teams we play against are still getting the whistle notification or their frre kicks. but when an opponent, clothelines, hip and shoulders to the head, holds one arm, or drags a forward backwards onto their ■■■■, the Essendon Free is signaled by the commentators who say, "oooh, 'Essedon Player' was unlucky there, but isn't his opponent who gave the free kick away playing well?"

OK forget blame. What was your opinion of the standard and consistency of the umpiring tonight?

"If he dies.....he dies"

spot on!!

Should have dug a hole and buried him

Shades of west coast last year. 4 FF until midway through the third

Outstandingly consistent.  Sydney was umpired one particular way for the entire game and Essendon was umpired a different way also for the entire game.  Umpire review: consistency - tick!

One thing I’ve noticed, we always get told to play on within 2seconds of getting up for receiving a free or just back peddling to get behind the mark, we never get given any decent time anymore

Once the crowd saw a replay of how the umpire was KO’d, I doubt anyone thought it was going to be much more than a short nap.

The Sydney fans applauded and laughed at the ump being felled too.

But I think we all know how the media will treat this.

As PRE said elsewhere just now, fark the world. Fark ‘em all.

exactly. Everyone hates us, and the umps screw us over anyways. Let's at least have some fun!!!!

That was by far the worse umpiring I have ever seen.

I didn’t boo when umpire got a fairy tap but I didn’t feel 1 bit of hurt for him.

I had an overwhelming urge to run out and kick him in the nuts. But of course I wouldn’t but he sure did kick us hard.

It wasn’t that we were not given free kicks, it was more how appalling the decisions to pay free kick to them which just were not there.

That 50 meter against Aylett. Fell off my chair

The 2 holding the ball - one in particular when poor ol Ambrose was under a pack of 20 players - no attempt - a swans player came up with the ball.

Free kicks in the 50 for over the shoulder but nothing the other end.

And the list GOES on and on.

I depress my self thinking about it anymore.

Pannel has murdered us a few times in the past so maybe karma has finally struck. Any chance it can strike elsewhere like AFL House, Vlad's house, Wilson , Smith, ASADA, etc etc.

Had to laugh when the crowd started singing "dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole ........" And my all time favourite chant "stay down Pannell, ■■■■ is good for the grass"

I don't hate us. I LOOOOOOVE us :)

We really need to make some noise about the umpiring tonight!!!

How can we make enough noise that the AFL will take note.

If I see one more game like that I swear I WILL not folloW AFL anymore.

Yep the umps, they injected us.

I've noticed this too.  If an opposition player runs over the mark, instead of us getting a 50, apparently it's play on as well.

We will possibly respond with deafening silence. Can't upset anyone.

What does he say?

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I thought the booing when Pannell went down was pretty bad. Sure, he's a **** ump. And sure, I agree that we've been batted from pillar to post by everyone over the last fifteen months and nobody deserves our sympathy. And when an ump takes a tumble give a cheer, definitely.

But it wasn't clear whether he was seriously hurt or not. He could have easily had a neck injury according to Doc Reid, and these can be life-threatening, no matter how innocuous they look. You have to remember, whether they're cheats or not, these people have families. They have lives outside of footy, which when all is said and done, is a game. It means a lot to all of us, but it's still a game. There's no need to cheer the suffering of others.

Couldn't agree more. I would never cheer another team's player getting injured and not an umpire either. Yes it was a little bit funny at first, but the booing when he went off on a stretcher was very very very poor.
