Blatant cheating by umpires - “having a ‘mare tonight” (Part 1)

Bitchmond fan I know on FB saying how disgraceful our supporters are, then mentioned that we haven’t spat on our own coach before. Unfriended. Nearly as big an achievement as getting blocked by Jon Ralph on Twitter!!

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I thought the booing when Pannell went down was pretty bad. Sure, he's a **** ump. And sure, I agree that we've been batted from pillar to post by everyone over the last fifteen months and nobody deserves our sympathy. And when an ump takes a tumble give a cheer, definitely.

But it wasn't clear whether he was seriously hurt or not. He could have easily had a neck injury according to Doc Reid, and these can be life-threatening, no matter how innocuous they look. You have to remember, whether they're cheats or not, these people have families. They have lives outside of footy, which when all is said and done, is a game. It means a lot to all of us, but it's still a game. There's no need to cheer the suffering of others.

Hard not to indulge in this mindset when our suffering seems to be high point of the entire football community.

What does he say?

 oh you fking idiot umpire

We should learn from the experience of the only man convicted of bringing the game into disgrace twice: don‘t call an umpire biased/incompetent/on the take.

Call all three of them that.

and when the individual hurt was partly responsible for our suffering

Its no coincidence we are last in the comp for frees
But tonight, we were absolutely fkd over. Questions must be asked. I dont give a ■■■■■ if costs someone 5k to publicly come out and say sonething, tonight was the most one sided umpiring I have EVER seen

Listen to Bomber's after match interview - he had a go indirectly.  Words to the effect of they found other ways to get goals.

The booing/cheering wasn't really directed at him. It was a way to venture our own feelings.

For the past 15 months, we've had our captain absolutely ridiculed. Booed from opposition fans, speculation from the media to strip the Charlie off him all because he told the truth on a televised public interview.

Us fans have copped our share. Everyone calling us drug cheats, that Hirdy is a liar. We've had enough. This unprecedented investigation has taken a toll on us all, so it was pure frustration from our part what happened tonight. Combined with very, very poor umpiring (not just from tonight, but all year!), it was bound to happen.

Melks up for a mark, arm clearly grabbed and dragged out of it. No free. 2 seconds later, Sydney free for high shot that was not even there, leading to a goal…then add in the Hurley non-free…fark me!

Mate the umpire got hit by the Karma bus.  Does it take an Essendon player to have his neck broken before they start paying free kicks?  Hurley this week, both Joe Daniher and Jobe Watson got hit in the head last week and Chappy against Collingwood.  They were severe hits and the umpire ignored it.  The Essendon players have wives and children and families too!  The umpires have a duty of care and are paid big bucks for what they do.  The bottom line Sydney were taking liberties and eventually it was a Sydney player who ran into the umpire (then ran away)! The Karma bus with a big No. 9.

Umpiring has been atrocious against us all year - even when we've won. It's hard to not go down the conspiracy theory path when there's fark all else to go with.

Got hit by one of his own teammates and deservedly so.

Pannell suffered memory loss in the incident.  Hopefully he's forgotten everything that has made him the terrible umpire he is today.

Well said

i worked it out in the first 5 minutes when the umpire let Kennedy call his own 50 metre penalty.

The Umpiring was farkin sh*t.

After the first free kick Franklin got at the start of the game i knew it was going to be a long night.

If someone has any spare time (and the knowledge) they should make a video of all the bad decisions, so we can actually show people everything all together and how attrocious it is. Maybe even send it into Sam's Mailbag!

I shut it off. Not because I gave up on Essendon, but because I gave up any illusion that we are on a level playing field.

This is our “punishment” folks. Get used to it. It isn’t going to get any better until somebody decides it’s been long enough.

I have several things to add to this thread. First, I don’t think I am an umpire bagger. I really don’t. But that was the worst most consistent three quarter display of umpiring I have seen in my life. If I performed that poorly at my job I would be sacked.

That being said, I was very against the booing of the umpire that got hurt. I will admit freely that I said that he was soft when I looked at it on the replay. But turns out, that his mum and dad were sitting two seats away from me and they were very upset. Good reminder.

To the bogan c**t essendon supporter in front of us, who felt the need to scream every swear word he knew every minute or so… Get out. You know who you are. You were an embarrassment.

Meh,fark you pannell. What goes around comes around.

OK. I've had time to get some sleep and calm down.

Nobody can really dispute that Sydney were a 6 goal better team on the night… They were all over us from the first bounce.

However, The umpires DIRECTLY affected the end result…

It's not how many free kicks paid to the opposition and how many to us, but the placement and outcome of the frees.

I counted 4-5 goals that Sydney should not have been able to kick (in that way at least). Goals gifted to them via frees that either weren't there, or were a 50/50 call at best.

I had Carlton-supporting mates texting me during the game saying how bad the ump's call were… THAT tells me everything.

I had a "fun" time trying to explain to my 7yo why things were going the way they were, and why the crowd seemed so angry all night.

DOn't think he enjoyed the experience much, and won't be in a hurry to go to a game again any time soon…

Sorry All, just had to say my bit… time to move on
