Blatant cheating by umpires - “having a ‘mare tonight” (Part 1)

Yeah...

...Nah.

Should have tipped the cheating prick off the cart

Essendon mark…half a second later…play on

Did anyone see zaharakis mark the ball and umpire blow whistle and give a free for high contact. Should have just paid mark. But padded free stats.

Yeah there were a few ordinary ones but did it cost us 9 goals? I'm more ***** that somehow Sydney have managed to cram Buddy and Tippett into their forward line without breaching the salary cap.

Or have to use a trade to pick either player up.

I doubt it is specific instruction, but I do think that because of the ASADA thing, and the sustained media vitriol, that umpires, commentators and other club supporters are either consciously or sub consciously treating us differently.

I thought it was just me, thank god you all saw it too.

I’d attribute that loss to a number of factors, the chumps one of them:

  • a dysfunctional forward line, including missing scoring crumbers like Chappy and Licka;
  • the reluctance to abandon the slow-down strategy early enough, which when it starts to turning to ■■■■■, makes us fumble and act timid;
  • Sydney’s recruiting “advantage”, both the official and the rumoured one;
  • Sydney’s first half ball use from their mids and back men (e.g. Kennedy, McViegh, Richards),
  • Sydney’s freakish accuracy, and
  • the momentum gained through some exceptional frees against us, both in a timing and field position sense.

    What percentage these 6 factors played I won’t hazard an estimate at, but only the first two are within our control. Stop playing nervous Nellie, I gotta hold possession of the ball and play like you did in the second half and if the gods of football were shining on you, then that would of been a 2-3 goal game.

    Fark Carlton, and let’s hope we come back a smarter team after the bye.

No one can argue that the swans are better, but when they get gifted 4-5 goals and on the other end Ryder doesn’t get paid 3 obvious free kicks in our forward 50 we have a right to be angry.

I csn accept losing to a better team, I can’t accept that umpiring display

lol at this thread. westozziebomber please insert your second eye

Worst umpiring I can remember in a long, long time. On the station platform after the game I said to my mate that I didn't expect us to win the game but I can't remember being so ropeable after a loss to a very good side, and most of it came down the disgraceful umpiring and the fact that they won't be called to account.

As for Pannell, booing is pretty poor form but I don't think it will make him umpire any worse against us as it's not possible. That bloke has been rogering us for years, makes McLaren look like a paid up EFC member.

Regarding the booing of the umpire, where I was sitting the only people consistently booing him were the Swans supporters. There were some halfhearted boos from a couple of Essendon people that lasted about 10 seconds then it was just the Sydney people left booing. No idea why except maybe they were ■■■■■■ off that he knocked himself out when he was doing such a good job for their side. They needn’t have worried so much. His replacement did an equivalent job.

It'll be near impossible for us to beat the top echelon of teams this year, even if we are in A1 form.  I think it is fairly obviously that Essendon doing well in the next couple of years would be seen as gravely embarrassing by/to AFL House.

Either the AFL have instructed (perhaps indirectly) the umpires to apply the nth letter of every rule against EFC, but to give liberal interpretations when it is EFC's turn to receive, or the umps are doing it subconsciously because of all the ASADA junk.

People who don't even follow AFL who I was watching with tonight were questioning if silent, wallowing me was not noticing the patent bias against EFC.  I am not a conspiracy theorist by nature, but this just seems to fit the narrative so well, it seems the most logical. There were hints of it at times last year, but it is far more obvious now, probably even more blatant up in Brisbane last week.

We would still have lost tonight, but we weren't 9 goals worse than that Swans team. I am definitely not claiming an excuse for the loss - we were quite appalling in the first quarter - and I am hardly reputed as an umpire blamer, but this is becoming a bigger issue for me than merely winning and losing... it is killing the game and team I love.  They have smashed us off the field, and are now getting us ON the field as well.

Given our recent history though, I expect nothing more from the club than to roll over and keep letting everyone have a free (no pun intended) shot at us. Sometimes I feel like I am starting to hate this game...

I agree with this. It's what I think us happening. The AFL does not want us to play finals this year, but they can't throw us out for poor governance. So they are relying totally on ASADA for to keep us out. Given that is likely to drag on for some years with appeals, they have to make sure we don't make the eight by some other means.
Hence the umpiring. I don't usually blame umpires either, I think if you play in front you will get the calls, but tonight I was in shock. We were fairly awful at times, but the umpires were worse. And I don't think it would be anything as direct as a direction, I think it has been "suggested" that the "better team" get the calls sort of thing.
And even the commentators on fox were dreadful in their after match reporting of the Hurley incident. Just woeful, almost as though they too are on the payroll.

Terrible terrible umpiring.

But seriously come on there is some in here that are saying it was intentional.

No way known! There is too much going on and too much too risk for that to be the case.

Someone mention earlier. Should make a video of all he bad decisions. Who knows it may end up in the right hands at the AFL and they might bother doing something about it.

All I want is for the umpiring boss to come out and publically say it was terrible umpiring on the night and it may have cost essendon a couple of goals. We will speak with relevant umpires and fix this going forward.

1. After last year I will believe anything of the AFL
2. That's never going to happen

Would this thread have started if we won?

So tell me how did it go. Did Vlad have a coffee with the umpiring boss and suggest ' mate do what ever to make sure essendon doesn't make it'. Hmmm right.....
This is where it gets better. The umpiring boss calls in all his dumb umpires and says ' boys be a harsh as possible on Essendon'. Where ever possible make sure they lose.
RIGHTO
GET A GRIP AS IF....
No way know that happens in today's day and age.
It was just bad umpiring!! The game has turn to poo! It's all about how the umpire see it and reacts.

Of course it is intentional. It started all those years ago when James Hird called that Maggot a cheat on the Footy Show.

Sydney always get the biggest free ride in the league

But tonight was different - I swear the AFL Hayes us, still thinks we got away with the ASADA thing lightly and this is a way of punishing us - the fans, the club and the players

LOL ■■■■ me this thread is ridiculous.

We played like retards, just as we have for the majority of the year. Except this time we played like retards against a quality team that reamed us.
