Akerfeldt is a genius. The band at that point were at their peak. That said I love all their work.

Such terrible news

l regret that l haven’t had anything meaningful to add to this thread, until now.

Not sure why Lord/Dungeon are posting all their songs to YouTube but definitely brings back memories of 2005-2012(ish).
Also randomly a girl I went to Wacken Open Air with in 2010 was room mates with Andy (the bass player) back then.

Also, new Slaughter To Prevail album just dropped.

Anyone got any recommendations for a similar sound to this?
They were just a random band I happened to hear on a playlist years ago but haven’t been able to find much like it (including the rest of their catalogue lol - think this was the only album to feature the clean vocalist).

Not a great match but it reminds me of some of soilwork’s stuff.

Not strictly metal, but some really great videos in this collection. so many great unheralded and forgotten bands.

I’ll have a properly look during uni hols.
Not sure whether to go through power metal looking for heavier bands, or melodeath looking for lighter bands haha

My gut says melo death looking for more melodic vocals. The hang up might be the screamo/metalcore side of things. I’ve got a couple of mates that are well into newer power stuff and I haven’t had them share anything with me that comes close to that, to the point that I just shared that track with them.

Yeah I think you’re right.
Their other albums are definitely more melodeath in the In Flames/Soilwork vein.
Just checked their wiki and the only reason that album is almost entirely clean vocals is that the guy who used to growl left the band and they hadn’t replaced him lol.
This is the last album to pre-date the clean guy (the album in between this and the one I posted is more a 50:50 split of harsh/clean).

I can’t think of any that do just clean vocals with melodic death metal riffing like that, it’s usually a mix and the examples above are on the money. Amorphis i think has a couple of albums without growls but they have quite a different aesthetic

These guys came to mind initially and I mentally wrote them off without bothering to check if they had anything like what you posted and I came across this. Again probably a bit more core than what you’re after, but thought I’d point you to this particular track.

Not really metal but it’s the KING at the top of his game and exactly how we want to explode out of the blocks against the Pies today. RIP EVH.
