No snow, but blardy cold. 4C when I left home, and only got colder. 3C at the top of Kinglake.
Riding down was like sitting in a freezer!
You doing Cunningham?Off to Riolio territory tomo morning for some race course recon, gonna be freezing in Gatton!
Yep.
The roads can only be described as dead and energy zapping.
Only 1 clipstack this morning. 1 completely unco moment, but I then had the 'swing your heel out and come off the saddle!' moment and I averted a crisis. 40 minutes of going around the block, stopping and starting. And wondering what that feeling in my legs was: force on the upstroke!
Bike pic as requested, with bonus pics of the pave in my drive
Glad you held out for a better spec, you'll ride it more because of it.
*You may gain additional street cred by promptly removing the reflectors, just saying :)
Yikes, I've only done that road downhill ... Still had to climb up to Toowoomba tho!Yep.You doing Cunningham?Off to Riolio territory tomo morning for some race course recon, gonna be freezing in Gatton!

I've been told the Cunningham is a course that will suit me but I'm not feeling anywhere near fit enough for a race like that. What grade you racing?
Also yeah geek, first thing I was going to say was ditch the reflectors!
G4T: yeah, just haven’t got around to taking them off yet.
Oh, thanks to all for the help and suggestions when I was shopping. Much appreciated.
I bought a Jeep.
Nah,actually bought the Cell. By Christ, road bikes are a rush when you've not ridden them before.
Next challenge: learn how to cleat.
With new cleats / shoes ... this advice helped me.
Clipping in: Get a thick texta - put a vertical line on the inside vertical part of the sole of your shoes where it aligns with the axle of the pedal. Then you can look down and just align the texta mark with the pedal axle before pressing down, if you are having trouble. This also helps to check out if your cleat has slipped forward or back on your soles.
Coming out, agree with R&B, the best advice is clip out landing foot very early as soon as your decide to freewheel or brake to a stop.
Hi all,
I've returned the loan bike back to it's owner and I've decided to put down some hard earned on a bike of my own. Budget is $800-$1000 and I've had my brother in law doing the search for me at this stage, as like you guys he seems to be all over this stuff.
So far he's suggested this as my best option if I want to stay under the $1,000 which I kind of need to or the wife might kill me!

Damn, that's not bad. I went past the Reid for a Cell Lapa 2.0, on sale at $899 - at the time the Reid was still $1130.
The Lapa has a mix on 105 and Tiagra, and I reckon Cell would haggle or do you a deal on bike + gear: I paid $1050 for the bike, pedals, shoes and some other odds and sods.

FWIW: I rode both on the weekend. The Reid was like "WOW ROAD BIKE!" and the Cell was "Xoncaedojf hvsdouvhwFGiQEioufgkv;HLSFJGVIP"JSVN"

At the price point you're looking at, that's a pretty good bike. 105 gear all round, including brakes.
Go ride them both; I found the Cell handled better and just felt more 'right' than the Reid, but I'm an odd size and the sizing of the Reid was not quite right for me
Cheers guys thanks, I’m heading for a look on Saturday.
l have been thinking for a while of building my next bike. ls the Piranello TT any good? The problem is l will probably have to leave China soon, so looks like it won't happen.

Do you intend to do time trials?
Or on training rides when everyone else is on roadies just to pull ahead in a pace line like a chump.
Friggin TT bikes...
Anyway, I'll be in Bris tomorrow trying out that new Tarmac. Will report back...

TT bikes are fast, but are (IMO) pigs to ride generally. Forget about any sort of climbing!
People with TT bikes can do whatever they hell they like, on their own!

Actually, you often see 2 or three gathered together here. But it's far from sociable, head down and churning the wheels.
Actually I have nothing against TT bikes. But you have to be doing tris or TT comps. I don't see the point otherwise.

Last time I saw TT bikes in a pair they were both slip streaming a truck at well over 60+.
Just bad experiences with idiots and TT bars in social/training rides, is all.
