Blitz Probe Cycling

There's a pair I've seen on beach road, early morning. Matching LEDs on the seat stem, and down the seat stays. Look like mobile christmas trees in the dark!

THIS.

l have been thinking for a while of building my next bike. ls the Piranello TT any good? The problem is l will probably have to leave China soon, so looks like it won't happen.

Looks like a Chinerllo to me.
Huh. Didn't t realise that the knockoff industry extended to bikes too. Should have realised.
EDIT: yeah, just checked Ali Express. Damn.

A mate who is right into his cycling (like, owns 19 bikes and has quads like Greipel), once bought a Chinarello for his (equally addicted) son. Set it up with SRAM gear and all the good stuff. It's a sick bike and young fella still rides it daily.
Some of those knock-offs are just plain ■■■■■, but most are of a very high quality... But no, you don't need a TT unless you plan to TT. Or just like to look like a ■■■■ everywhere you go.

Oh boy…

When will you be ordering??

Brain is still well in charge. Won’t be until the new year. But the heart knows damn well it will be happening.

So that is what the TT stands for.

For those interested Orica GreenEdge are doing their public access winery ride again this year in November.  It goes into the Strathbogies in Victoria, starting and ending at Michelton (Gerry Ryan's winery) near Nagambie.  3 different ride options.

I went last year it was good.  Plenty of people trying unsuccessfully to hang onto the back of a pro-train riding slowly.  After the rides - Lots of wine tasting from all the local wineries, a few different food options, opportunity to interact with mens and womens pro teams, and some entertainment.  They were also selling lots of previous year's kit cheap .. although they were moving from Santini to Craft so that might not happen this year.

So that is what the TT stands for.

Get yourself a decent roadie and life will never be the same.

A Chinese knock off will be fine, if you have a limited budget ;)

So that is what the TT stands for.

If they have a Pinarello Dogma knock-off, go for something like that.

They do. l thought about the TT because l could then build it up the way l want, according to my own specs. The Dogma is fully built up. Most likely this is all academic as l am looking for a new job and will probably have to leave China, within the next 6 months anyway. Thanks to all for the input.

Purchase is complete, I’ve joined matrixgeek on a Cell Lapa 2.0, few laps of the street behind the shop and I was sold.

Deal ended up being Bike, Shimano Peddles, Halmet for $899, think I’ve done ok. Just need to get some shoes and I’m good to go!

Nice Jards! I trust you have deleted the wheel reflectors?? :stuck_out_tongue:

So I’m at 627km for the month, with sights firmly set on 750. Should ■■■■ it in between now and Wednesday week  Has been an awesome month for cycling here, pristine cool weather, Ks just getting eaten up. Still have to do my Fondo yet, though…

Yes yes, I’ve removed the reflectors on mine. Sheesh. :stuck_out_tongue:

Was asked by the guy giving the bike the once over before I left the shop if I wanted them removed, I said you bet, he suggested that was the correct answer!

Interesting question, does anyone know or can confirm the legality of riding without 'non-performance' accessories ...

For example:

- bell ... I think this is legal requirement, or are there exemptions?

- front white reflector (always) ... or a white light (after dark), .... I think this is legal requirement, but is it both or either.

- rear red reflector (always) ... or a rear light (after dark),   ... I think this is legal requirement, but is it both or either.

- side reflectors on wheels ....  I don't this this is a legal requirement, but bike shops / manufacturers tend to add them.

- chain guards on rear wheel cluster ....  I don't this this is a legal requirement, but bike shops / manufacturers sometimes add them.

The last 2 are interesting.  I think it might be a requirement to sell bikes with these attached.  But it is not a legal requirement to ride with them - i.e. you can take them off.

Note: This is a serious question.  When I say legal, I am referring to actual government laws.  Not 'codes' that might be imposed by various peer groups.

- I believe a bell is a legal requirement and there was recently a massive police blitz on cyclists in Queensland where many were fined for lacking such an item. I personally do not have one, but a few of the guys I ride with do.

- Yes, front and rear lights are required. I reckon this much is a no-brainer though, especially before dawn or at/after dusk. A flashing rear light at the bare minimum during the day for me. Reflectors, imo, are only good at night time as they only work when illuminated (headlight shine, for eg)

- Nfi about the other two. I would suggest only the BigW/Toyworld type manufacturers (and Cell!!) would produce bikes standard with any sort of wheel reflector, or chain guard. Could you imagine collecting your shiny new $15K+ Storck/Cinelli/Pinarello etc with reflectors on??

Bell - yes.

Front and rear reflectors if riding after dark - yes, although never heard of anyone getting done for not having any.

Lights, of course if riding after dark.

Side reflectors and chain guards - no.

Knocked over the Fondo today.

Cold, crisp and a little damp. Had a fair bit of sea fog over oliver's hill, mt Eliza.

The amount of people I see around this place after dark with no lights, no reflectors, wearing dark clothing and often (no racist) dark skinned, is quite amazing. Alarming even. It's like, you're driving down the street and these silhouettes just appear out of nowhere.

This is one of the things that really gets up my nose about the "cyclist wars". Y'know, we're out there, making ourselves as visible as possible, wearing safety gear etc etc etc, yet there is this other element of people on bikes, not caring a whit for their own safety or various rules and laws...and who cops all the grief from motorists??

I shake my head in bewilderment...
