Bloos v Dons review

Cincotta surprised me bobbed up with 2 goals and made life hard for Merrett and Martin.

Also Elijah Hollands performance justified my interest in trade last year.

Why would the Blues choose to be in 2nd gear?

Extremely harsh on Heppell. That was his first poor game for the year. Has been excellent every other week. Hind was also excellent last 2 weeks and not bad tonight.

Fantastic view on level 3 on the wing. We lost not because of effort, rather a disfunctional forward line. Our talls couldnt mark the ball and couldn’t bring a contest to the ground. Carlton on the other hand even if Curnow and McKay don’t mark it, their smalls crumbed well. They also had a paddock to play with whilst we were so crowded. I thought Ben McKay and Ridley did ok (he came back after looked like being dominated early). Wright, Jones, langers and Stringer aren’t working. Don’t know what the answer is.

Late in the 3qtr with 40 seconds left, a clear Perkins runs into goal 35 meters out and doesn’t have the courage to kick for goal. Instead kicks to a goal square contest- rushed.
Just one of a number dumb decisions we made.
Each week it is the same.

Same here and I don’t think it’s the single malts.

You add conversion + Draper, Redman, Parish, Duursma, Hobbs, Caddy and Saad to our team and we’ll flog them next time.

We didn’t just roll over again.

We miss a key back (either Baldwin, Reid etc), forward that can take a contested grab (Caddy), more strength around the ball (parish, Hobbs) and run in the wings (Duursma) and we’d be a much better team.

Sucks losing to these ■■■■■ any time but they are pretty ■■■■ when the heats on.

We just weren’t clean enough tonight, or last week.

Reset with the bye, get some players back and play 10 games in Melbourne straight. We’ll make top 6 and win a final this year without a doubt

I don’t agree with our kicking losing us the game.

Carlton had our measure all night.

Frustrating and disappointing, yes, but our problems are fixable.
They aren’t that good and with Draper in for Wright, Parish for Setterfield, Redman for Kelly, Duursma and Hobbs and I’m confident we have them covered.

Frustrating to watch. Really frustrating…It’s clear to me that we need to work on finding more gears and being able to execute better under pressure.

  1. Nic Martin needs to go to the forwardline. It works so much better with him in there rather than our backline.
  2. Goldy cannot ruck alone; needs Draper back badly or bite the bullet Scott and have Bryan as second ruck (Wright is not the answer).
  3. We missed Duursma, Parish, Redman and Draper tonight. I think with all four in our side I think we beat Carlton tonight…but we’ll never know!
  4. Stop making Jake Kelly our utility…keep him defensive and with as little of the ball as possible. I see him forward, on the wing and backline but his brain and ball use are ■■■■.
  5. Peter Wright’s form has been woeful the last few weeks. He needs to lift.

Time for the bye and hopefully we get a few bodies back and the side get a rest ready to give the back half of the year a real crack. Results went our way today (except our own of course) so the hard work starts now.

How come curnow mckay can get 1on1

Yet we always end up 3 on 1

It’s horrendous

Why would they need to? Its Essendon here, ■■■■ easy to play against. Kick ball into forward line = 50% chance of kicking a score. Counter rebound Essendon when they play 1 quarter of footy. Your dreaming if you think even if we kicked those behinds we would be close, they would of just kicked one 10 seconds later like they did all night. ■■■■ easy team to play against. Dimma was right.

And we let it happen pathetic from him team mates to not protect the captain

Not in the third quarter they didn’t.

100%. To say we only lost cos of our goal kicking is wrong and takes the focus off other areas we got belted in

60 inside 50’s to 40. Two patches where they had 7 scoring shots from 10 entries (Q1 and Q4). Too easy for them.

Our 3rd term was amazing but couldn’t capitalise. Bit lost on a genuine big stage I think.

We’re not far away, we regrouped at half time and threw a punch, at least.

Merrett is a gun but not a superstar untaggable gun. That’s the difference between him and a Bont or a Petracca

They had us beaten by quarter time.

Martin = Forward half player. No more half back. Go throw money at Bailey Dale and try woo him away from Bevo.

But this team needs to find some more class. Martin and Merrett aren’t enough.

Can Wright be carried in this modern game?

Feel it’s best to go Langford, Stringer, Jones and Caddy and just be more mobile.

Wright become a real flat track bully for me.

Because Laverde has the turning circle of…like…an old, old, wooden ship, used during the Civil War era.
