And the team selections showed definitively that making finals was still the priority. I said to the missus after the third GWS goal, about five minutes into the match, that we were gonna get belted. I turned it off halfway through the second, and it obviously, unfathomably, got worse from there.
Our opponent today, who we beat comfortably earlier this season, had won 11 games for the year and had a percentage of less than 100. We had a team with 10 first round draft picks, and that doesn’t include our two best players of this season (Merrett and Langford). If that’s the sort of effort Brad Scott inspires from a team chockers with high draft picks then his tenure at EFC will be pretty short. He’s failed miserably as a coach since the bye; here we are for the third time in the past four seasons (2020, 2022 and 2023) finishing the year as the worst team in the competition.
We are slow and unskilled, but worse than that, we are soft. So incredibly ■■■■■■■ soft. There is a stench on this club, it’s been there for a long while and it’s obviously still there, possibly more pungent than ever. I don’t know what will get rid of it, and it seems no-one at the club does either.

I have to say that, even when we were winning early in the season, he was saying the same thing.
He has said it all year. We are miles off. Problem is the fans all expect quick fixes.
McKay might help a little.

we need setterfield in the side, but also another bigger mid Imo.
Bailey Smith or Oliver available i’m talking to them.
Wright needs to have a big preseason and get fired up.
Needs VOSS beside him strutting about and dragging defenders away.
we do need a key back and i’d like McKay but if trading due to our compo pick for Parish would only offer a second rounder for McKay.
Need Jayden Davey or Tex bring. a threat around goal and defensive pressure next year don’t want to see snelling forward again.

True, but the comment i took note was “all aspects of the football department”. Most curious as to what he is thinking.
Def should have picked Weideman and Setterfield.
Stringer should have started.
And our game plan should have stuck to slower tempo footy. Uncontested, patient with much more marks.
They played GWS footy and got absolutely spanked.
That loss was on the players and the coaches.
I also thought they looked flat so its probably also on the fitness staff too.
While I appreciate this comment deserves its own conversation but I can’t help but recall Terry Daniher’s comment about the hanger.

Im kinda glad this happened in a weird way.
Shows the group and coaches that there is a whole lot that needs work.
Going into the offseason with a few wins and/or honourable losses won’t stick like this will.
I had low expectations of around 10-14 for this year but at the start of this season I was thinking around 6th next year before top 4 in 2025.
A looong way to go and this thumping removes any gloss that may be there from the 1st half of the season
