would be very happy to help you, I am sure something can be arranged to get you into the Neckarstadion. Llike many other fans, am a bit of a traditionalist, still referring to our homeground like this. Let me know when exactly you'll be around. Also, let me know what type of match-viewing you prefer, amongst the more boisterous elemnt of the crowd, or a nice seat in the mainstand, etc.
Humbert Humbert raised the point about setting up places where like-minded Bombers fans can meet up ("set up tables, chairs, bean bags, catering. You can make a bit of money off 1000 hungry, thirsty fans. We could also get a handful of suburban pubs to play along - eg the club sends them some red and black paraphenalia to spruce up the bar on match day and the bar provides a 20% discount to card-carrying members.")
My club has started a program called "VfB Stuttgart 'Fan Treffs'" (Fan Treff meaning 'meeting place of supporters', literally). No matter where the club plays, if it's shown on telly, VfB supporters can safely assume that any of the 'Fan Treffs' will be screening the match, no matter what other matches are on at the same time, the VfB match will always have priority (shown on big screen, etc.). This program is done in conjunction with on eof the big local beer breweries. Also, the Fan Treffs typically come with plenty of Stuttgart emorabilia, creating a nice and homely touch for any VfB fan. It's proved to be a real win-win: Supporters find plenty of home-from-homes and safe-heavens across the country to see their beloved team, and even on non-match-days, the VfB community can meet and discuss the latest going-ons at the club over a drink. The club thereby extended its reach in the community, nationwide, and the breweries don't mind the additional visibility and beer sales either. Sports Bar on Punt Road – Pint on Punt - 42 Punt Rd, Windsor VIC 3181, Australia
Elsternwick Hotel (public bar at the back) - 259 Brighton Rd, Elwood VIC 3185
Precinct Hotel - 60 Swan St, Richmond VIC 3121
The Botanical - 169 Domain Rd, South Yarra VIC 3141
That covers the northwest and the southeast. Does anyone go to a pub to watch the games out East? North east? Western suburbs? It would be good to get a list of 'preferred' pubs/clubs so that like-minded, right-thinking supporters can congregate. Of course, this can also extend to interstate fans and rural fans - but perhaps they already know where to go? And international supporters ... I once spent a very satisfying morning with a few Bomber fans at a Walkabout bar in London watching us cream the Weagles.
Interesting post on the EFC site today. Maybe they’re listening? Only two sites listed however, both in the northwest. KB’s map just above is a better bet.
If you can‘t make it to Punt Road tomorrow to watch the Bombers take on Richmond, there are plenty of Essendon venues to watch the game in style.
The Bombers take on Richmond tomorrow at Punt Road in their final pre-season hit out before the 2014 home-and-away season. Tickets for tomorrow‘s clash are no longer available.
A bit far from the city and not going to help Kraut but Hogan's in Wallan is an Essendon supporting pub
My family visit this pub often - the 1985 Premiership photo in the bar is about 3m tall and about 5m wide - Hogans is great in winter with the fireplace etc.
If you are ever around Wallan contact me - well, not today (Germany 1 Chile 0) bastards :)
