That’s was a standard Saturday night in Dandenong in the 90’s

Remember Parval Marinoff? I remember hiding under our desks in primary school as he did rings around our school shooting at something.

There was another like that when I was in highschool, I had a free period and went to a mates place for a sneaky dart and when I was walking back to the school I saw all the class rooms empty. Then I hear one of the girls from my year level scream “Ben! Run! And then I see 2 cops charge towards me yell “get in the school, some crazy was popping shots at the school hall less than 100 meters from where I was crossing.

That was pretty crazy

The internet heroes thing was more a general snark, than a specific one aimed at you. (But in hindsight, it did look that way)

And I have no doubt you’d speak the same way in real life.

No it’s not an obscene or violent opinion. I just see things differently.

Humble_Minion:

I was two blocks away from this when it happened, watching the smoke column from out the office window. Had no idea what had actually happened til i got home though.

What struck me is how well this was all handled.

Gun laws prevented the guy arming himself heavily. He was unable to buy the material for making fertiliser bombs, cos they’ve been barred for years. Due to the safety bollards he couldn’t get his car into a position to run over people. He had to resort to a rubbish improvised quasi-explosive and a knife. He seems to have been effectively foiled by courageous members of the public until police promptly responded and used progressively escalated force until he was subdued. There’s no question that police overreacted or got triggerhappy. There’s no question that the response was proportionate, measured, and appropriate.

In short, whether this was an ideologically driven terrorist attack or a spree killing by a deranged murderous loon, it seems to have been an absolute textbook example of handling something like this. None of which will of course be of any consolation to the family of the person who was killed, of course. But in a city of five million people, when one random person decides to do his best to kill as many people as he can and this is the result, I think that’s a pretty clear indication that the measures you have in place are working.
